Compensation: $130,000 - $180,000 annually (based on experience)

Job Summary: The Director, Regional Medical (RMD) is responsible for advancing medical quality and doctor engagement across a defined portfolio of veterinary hospitals. This role provides hands-on leadership to ensure clinical excellence, aligned execution of medical initiatives, and the development and retention of veterinary teams. In partnership with the Director, Regional Operations, the RMD translates organizational goals into hospital-level execution, balancing clinical standards with operational effectiveness. The RMD plays a central role in mentoring doctors, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, consistent care across all hospitals.
Travel required: Less than 50%
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Provide medical leadership and mentorship across a portfolio of hospitals, supporting consistent standards of care and doctor engagement.
Oversee doctor hiring, onboarding, training, and retention to ensure hospitals are staffed with culturally aligned, high-performing teams.
Partner with the Regional Operations Director to align clinical priorities with hospital operations and financial performance.
Help manage the regional P&L, with particular attention to doctor productivity, quality of care metrics, and overall medical excellence.
Execute medical initiatives developed by the Chief Medical Officer, Group Medical VPs, and Medical Excellence team.
Drive adoption and compliance with standardized clinical protocols while supporting local adaptations when necessary.
Conduct regular hospital visits, including clinical rounds and quality reviews, to evaluate adherence to care standards and identify opportunities for improvement.
Provide direct mentorship and ongoing development for doctors, with a focus on early-career veterinarians and recent graduates.
Create and implement individualized doctor development plans to support clinical growth and long-term retention.
Monitor and analyze key clinical performance indicators, initiating targeted interventions when results fall below expectations.
Facilitate knowledge-sharing and best practices across hospitals to support consistent clinical outcomes and professional development.
Serve as a leadership resource for clinical decision-making and team dynamics, offering guidance on complex cases and situations.
Maintain a visible and regular field presence to foster engagement, build trust, and reinforce the organization’s clinical vision.
Act as a feedback loop to the Medical VPs by communicating field-level insights and clinical challenges that impact execution.
Support a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement that aligns with the broader mission and values of the organization.
Perform other duties as assigned within the nature and level of work.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree required.
Active state veterinary license(s) for the assigned region or ability to obtain.
A minimum of five years of clinical practice experience in companion animal medicine.
A minimum of two years of leadership experience within veterinary medicine.
Strong clinical skills and a reputation for delivering high-quality care.
Demonstrated success in mentoring and developing veterinary professionals.
Experience implementing clinical protocols and quality improvement initiatives.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and lead across diverse hospital teams.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods of time. Ability to move through hospital environments, which may include tight or confined spaces, uneven surfaces, and exposure to cleaning agents, pet dander, noise, and animal handling areas.
