Due to the retirement of a senior leader, we have an opening for a Director, Planning and Distribution. In this role, you'll be responsible for leading the operational functions of demand planning, inventory management, and distribution logistics. This role ensures that products are available to meet customer demand while optimizing inventory levels and distribution efficiency. The Director will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align supply chain strategies with business goals, drive continuous improvement, and deliver exceptional service levels.
What you will get to do:
Lead the development and execution of integrated demand and supply planning processes to ensure accurate forecasting and efficient inventory management.
Oversee distribution operations, including warehousing, transportation, and order fulfillment, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of products.
Collaborate with Sales, Finance, Purchasing, and Manufacturing Operations to align supply chain plans with business objectives.
Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for planning accuracy, inventory turnover, order fulfillment, and distribution efficiency.
Implement and maintain planning systems and tools to improve forecasting, visibility, and decision-making.
Drive and support digital transformation throughout the organization.
Optimize inventory levels across the operations to balance service levels, working capital, and operational costs.
Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers (3PLs), carriers (LTL, Parcel, Truckload), and warehouse partners to ensure service quality and cost control.
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of leaders in Planning and Distribution, instilling a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Partner with Human Resources and staffing agencies to ensure appropriate staffing levels aligned with projected production volumes.
Build and sustain collaborative, high-performing planning and distribution teams by assessing talent, developing skills, and recognizing contributions to productivity, efficiency, and process improvement.
Champion a positive, equitable workplace culture that enhances teamwork, morale, and employee retention.
Instill continuous Improvement and cost savings into the Planning and Distribution culture using consistent processes supported by data analytics.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, and quality standards in distribution operations.
Prepare and manage departmental budgets, forecasts, and strategic plans.
Perform other duties as assigned
What you'll bring to the role:
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field . Master's degree or MBA is a plus.
8+ years of progressive experience in supply chain planning, logistics, or distribution, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Strong knowledge of demand planning, inventory optimization, and distribution best practices.
Proficiency in ERP and supply chain planning systems (e.g., Epicor, SAP, Oracle, Kinaxis, JDA).
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
APICS or similar supply chain certification (e.g., CPIM, CSCP).
Physical Requirements
Ability to move around the plant, functioning well in both an office environment and in various types of manufacturing environments. Includes daily work in an office on a computer.
Ability to disseminate information so others can understand.
Ability to understand information communicated by others.
Ability to observe activity near and far with or without corrective lenses.
Ability to move up to 30 pounds occasionally.
Ability to work in fluctuating temperature environments.
High noise level: hearing protection required on the production floor.
Exposure to airborne particles: eye protection required on the production floor.
