Director of Philanthropy at Friends of Youth focuses on leading the development and implementation of the organization’s comprehensive philanthropy strategy, working with the President & CEO, the Board of Directors, and program directors to advance fundraising across annual campaigns, major gifts, planned giving, and endowment efforts that support key programs. The role collaborates with the Marketing and Communications team to build ties with community organizations, corporations, and individual supporters, and to strengthen donor stewardship, acquisition, retention, and appreciation. Overview Responsibilities Annual Campaign: Develop and execute fundraising strategies that meet annual revenue goals across campaigns, inclusive of individual giving, corporate gifts, foundations, and special events. Ensure effective use of CRM systems to achieve the agency’s annual campaign goals. Board Interaction and Support: Attend Board of Directors meetings and prepare monthly development reports for Board members as required. Guide the Board’s Development Committee on their chart of work. Train, motivate, and involve Board members in the development process, specifically donor engagement. Work with the Chair of the Resource Development Committee on monthly meeting agendas and action items. Community and Civic Giving: In partnership with the President and CEO, assist in cultivating civic and community giving to the agency. Develop presentation materials with the Marketing and Communications division for agency representation to key stakeholders. Foundation/Corporate Relations: Identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with private foundations and corporations. Provide ongoing stewardship and program progress to funders; update information for prospective funders. Achieve annual financial goals for corporate and foundation giving. Grants (Private Funders): In partnership with the Grants team, supervise private grant communications, identify new sources of private grants, and achieve annual private grant targets. Major Gifts: Collaborate with the Foundation Board and CEO to raise major gifts for capital and operating needs. Identify prospects, develop cultivation and solicitation strategies, train Board members and volunteers, implement donor recognition, monitor progress, and achieve annual goals. Maintain key major gift donor relationships. Planned Giving: Introduce, cultivate, and steward planned-giving relationships. Coordinate bequests, trusts, gifts of securities or other assets, and develop communications tools with Marketing and Communications for recognition and engagement. Professional Conduct: Maintain high ethics and professionalism; stay informed on development trends and issues through conferences and networking. Special Campaigns (Capital and Program): Develop strategies and timelines for capital and program campaigns, oversee feasibility studies, case for support, committees, prospect identification, and gift strategies; assist in solicitations; raise capital to meet annual goals. Special Events: Develop signature events with the Board and CEO; create cultivation events aligned with agency goals; drive attendance and gift sizes; achieve annual event goals. Supervision: Supervise the Manager of Development and Assistant of Development. Other Duties: Perform other duties as needed; duties may change with or without notice. Requirements (We require) Bachelor’s Degree in a human-service or business-related field, or a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience substitute. Minimum of 5 years of experience managing major gifts, donor relationships, corporate partnerships and sponsorships, and fund development. Experience with donor databases and online fundraising tools; working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge preferred.
