Position Summary:
The Director of Student Engagement & Career Success provides comprehensive career and professional development services for students and alumni of Campbell University School of Law, counseling students, assisting with the creation and implementation of career resources and events and leading programs and initiatives to empower students for professional success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide individual counseling/coaching services to law students and recent graduates
Assist with the design, development and implementation of career related resources and materials to prepare students to engage with the modern legal market
Support the Career Center in the implementation of innovative career related programming at on and off campus events throughout the year
Serve as the primary point of contact for public service programming
Work with the Assistant Dean to create and administer special career and professional development projects and initiatives
Supervise law student workers as needed to support program goals
Develop and maintain relationships with employers across all practice settings
Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including but not limited to Title IX, and Information Security, including but not limited to: FERPA and other state and federal mandates
Other job-related duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice
Education/Experience:
JD from an ABA approved law school required
At least 5 years of legal practice experience and the relevant skills to coach law students and recent graduates
Experience mentoring, coaching, hiring or supervising law students and/or young lawyers
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of legal markets, legal processes, hiring trends, court systems, government agencies, inner workings of traditional law offices and in-house legal departments, etc.
Ability to communicate effectively with various constituencies including, students, faculty, law school and university administration, lawyers, judges, corporate/business
professionals and high-level government officials through both oral and written channels.
Strong relationship building and networking skills
Superior interpersonal, writing and proofreading skills
Excellent oral presentation skills and organizational skills
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality is essential
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
Experience with Symplicity, social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram), and Mailchimp, or ability to learn new technologies quickly
Demonstrates tact, courtesy and discretion in dealing with trustees, faculty, staff, students, high-level university officials and the public
Flexible and collaborative
Work independently as well as function effectively on a team and within a diverse group of people
Exercise independent judgment in complex and new situations
Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines
Detail-oriented and willing to work in a changing environment
Ability to work occasional evening or weekend hours
This position demands accuracy, honesty, integrity and the ability to work within the Christian mission of Campbell University
