The Director of Sales creates, leads, and executes the station’s sales strategy to achieve or exceed annual budget, and grow top line revenue from linear, streaming, and digital platforms. The Director of Sales is also responsible for developing a top performing sales team, empowering the sales managers and the sales team, and getting buy-in to ensure the proper and optimal execution of the sales strategy. This position reports to the President & General Manager.
Responsibilities:
• Build the sales strategy to achieve or exceed the station’s revenue goals.
• Recruit, develop, retain, and supervise an elite, and highly performing sales team.
• Price and manage inventory to meet and exceed budget goals with accurate forecasting.
• Work collaboratively with the station’s department heads and station management to create incremental revenue opportunities and ensure a smooth experience for clients from order to implementation of their marketing solutions.
• Collaborate marketing and news leaders on ratings, estimates and projections to optimize value.
• Gain understanding of the market and the business opportunities available to grow market share in each revenue stream by leveraging TEGNA’s resources.
• Develop strong relationships with local advertisers as an influencer and accelerator for new business opportunities.
• Lead change effectively and innovate and embrace new product opportunities.
• Closely partner with TEGNA Sales to optimize opportunities with national and political accounts and grow shares.
• Diligently update the different reports needed for station leadership and TEGNA Corporate leadership.
• Represent station in external sales and marketing related industry functions.
• Travel on a regular basis and attend sales-related functions after business hours.
Requirements:
• 10+ years of TV sales experience with 3-5 year(s) of experience in broadcast TV sales leadership role with track record of achieving or exceeding goals.
• Demonstrate knowledge of marketing solutions spanning linear broadcast TV and digital solutions, including OTT/CTV.
• Established knowledge of political advertising sales cycle.
• Proven track record of cultivating a strong performing team with a positive and inclusive culture.
• Ability to effectively manage a large staff with various skill sets.
• Demonstrate the ability to think and lead strategically and be a proven problem solver and thought leader.
• Able to manage pressure in a constructive fashion and promptly adapt to changing priorities and goals.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with solid interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Advanced CRM system experience; Salesforce.com experience.
• Working knowledge of Comescore, Wide Orbit Traffic, Wide Orbit Analytics, ShareBuilder, Matrix experience.
