• The individual is responsible for the overall direction of the parish Catechetical Program.
This includes working with the Pastor, the OCIA Coordinator, Y&YA Coordinator,
appropriate parish committees and the Diocesan Catechetical Office.
• Assesses needs, develop policies for the Catechetical program in relationship to overall
parish and diocesan policies and in accord with parish decision making process.
• Advise Business Administrator and/or Pastor of budget needs and anticipated expenses
for fiscal year.
• Direct, supervise and evaluate parish Catechetical programs, curriculum and staff,
including Catechetical programs from elementary through high school, daily and long
term.
• Yearly performance review of Catechetical staff with assistance of the Pastor.
• Be present for Wednesday and Saturday classes. Prepare opening prayer for Wednesday
and Saturday classes.
• Present sacramental workshops and parent education for First Reconciliation and First
Eucharist.
• Assist with Sacrament Activity Days for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.
• Present safe environment classes and ensure safe environment records are sent to
Diocese.
• Plan, coordinate and supervise Confirmation 2 program.
• Plan, coordinate and supervise Confirmation 2 retreat.
• Supervise Confirmation 1 program. Supervise Youth Ministry Coordinator.
• Plan and assist with catechists’ meetings, retreats, and in-services.
• Effectively communicate with catechists, parents and students in the Catechetical
program.
• Provide opportunities for staff development and support, including professional
enrichment, days of prayer and Catechist recognition.
• Responsible for recruitment, screening, formation, ongoing enrichment and supervision
of volunteer Catechists and staff.
• Review and update Catechetical Ministry Handbook.
• Plan and assist with registration procedures, schedule facilities and classes.
• Supervise the maintenance of permanent records of programs and sacramental records.
• Be aware of current catechetical resources, texts, and programs. Provide and evaluate
texts and AV materials.
• Order teacher and student texts.
• Plan and supervise fundraisers for catechetical program.
• Plan and facilitate the Catechetical Ministry Board.
• Meet on a regular basis with the Pastor and parish staff.
• Attend Parish Liturgy Committee meetings when it pertains to the Catechetical Program.
• Attend Deanery and monthly Diocesan DRE meetings.
• Present the Parish Catechetical program to the Diocesan Pastoral Ministry Office.
• Be familiar with Diocesan policies in order to develop parish policies in conjunction with
the Diocesan norms.
• Actively represent the Parish at Diocesan/Deanery meetings.
• Serve on appropriate Diocesan committees.
• Evaluate Catechists for Basic Catechist certification.
• Evaluate Catechists for Master Catechist certification.
• Be a liaison between the parochial school and catechetical staff.
• The obligations of this job description are daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly
responsibilities.
• The Director is accountable to the Pastor.
Salary Range (per year based on the education and experience): $68,900 – $71,000.
