Summary : The Director of Recreation will create/provide appropriate social activities for the home’s Assisted Living and Special Needs residents while maintaining the respect and dignity of each person.
Qualifications :
An associate degree from an accredited college or university, or satisfactory completion of two years of college, in either case with a major in recreation or related field: or
Two years of full-time experience in the recreation field with a dependent adult population
An activities director must have minimum educational qualifications as notes above or prior written approval by the Department of Health.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Reports directly to the Executive Director
Be a dynamic program planner, organize and schedule all activities and plan sufficient supervision for each activity as necessary
Cleans and straightens up each area after an activity is completed prior to leaving the area. (Must be ready for tours/marketing at any time of the day).
Plan, coordinate and conduct parties, activities, and home decorations for the holidays
Implements and conducts monthly activities that are scheduled on the monthly calendar
Creates a monthly activity calendar and newsletter maintained for 12 months
Plan monthly birthday and theme parties
Greet each new resident after his or her arrival
Coordinates appropriate entertainment from outside community sources
Coordinates and assists appropriate community outings
Coordinates appropriate religious services
Holds monthly Resident Council meetings and Meet the Chef meetings, documenting required minutes and attendance maintained for 12 months
Provides training and supervision to all recreation personnel
Provides annual performance reviews to recreation personnel
Interviews/hires recreation personnel
Coordinates special events/holiday celebrations with the food service director
Provides training and supervision to volunteers
Oversees the training and participation of the resident care aid in the activity programs
Demonstrate fiscal responsibility by maintaining approved recreation budget
Responsibilities can expand as the community changes over time
