Job Summary: The Director of Product Design leads DMG’s design organization – hiring, mentoring, and enabling a distributed team that delivers high-quality, data-informed experiences across our entire product suite: customer-facing web and mobile apps, the provider/technician app, and internal operations tools and dashboards. The role balances strategic leadership with periodic hands-on contribution, championing customer empathy, scalable design systems, and pragmatic use of AI to accelerate both team efficiency and AI-driven product features. What You'll Do: Set Design Strategy: Define vision, principles, and quarterly OKRs aligned to business goals and product roadmaps Drive Cross-Functional Alignment : Represent customers in product planning; embed design thinking across Product, Engineering, Sales, and Operations. Ship Broad Charter: Oversee UX for new customer app, provider/technician tools, new PLG initiatives, and internal ops dashboards. Leverage AI Effectively: Identify AI opportunities to streamline team workflows (e.g., design-ops, research synthesis) and inform AI-driven product features. Hands-On Projects: Own 1-2 strategic design initiatives per quarter – research, prototype, and delivery – to model best practices. Build & Scale Team : Recruit, onboard, and develop designers; run 1:1s, design critiques, and career-growth plans that help the team punch above its weight. Establish Design System & Standards: Maintain a scalable design system with WCAG AA compliance and consistent brand expression. Measure & Improve: Define UX metrics (adoption, task success, support reduction) and present performance to executive stakeholders. Other duties as assigned by management. What You Need: 12+ years in product/interaction design, including 5+ years leading multi-disciplinary design teams in SaaS or marketplace environments. Proven success overseeing multiple product surfaces (consumer, B2B, and internal tools) from discovery to launch. Experience in integrating AI/ML concepts into both design workflows and shipped product features. Mastery of Figma and modern prototyping/research tools; solid grasp of qualitative and quantitative UX methods. Demonstrated ability to build and scale a production design system. Clear, concise communication and stakeholder-management skills in a remote, fast-moving organization. Willingness to remain hands-on, delivering critical design work when needed. Ability to manage the stress of a fast-paced environment. Ability to meet the in-person requirements of the team and/or business needs.
