POSITION OVERVIEW
NuTrail is seeking a collaborative Director of Procurement to lead the sourcing and procurement of all the high-quality ingredients and packaging used in our products. You will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies in support of the company’s operational, financial and growth goals. You will be experienced at strategically managing critical ingredients, packaging materials, and long‑term supplier partnerships, while minimizing cost volatility and supporting major volume events.
You will be charged with developing risk mitigation strategies for key ingredients based on market intelligence, supplier relationships and your market knowledge. Cross‑functional collaboration is a core skill to ensure cost‑effective, reliable, and high‑quality supply of critical raw materials. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with deep commodity market knowledge and strong negotiation expertise. Candidate must be comfortable with ambiguity and understand that collaboration is key for top results. You are comfortable being in the trenches with your sleeves rolled up and leading long-term sourcing decisions with leadership, all in the same afternoon! RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Sourcing & Market Intelligence
· Develop and lead sourcing strategies for key global commodities (nuts, seeds, sweeteners, proteins, packaging) aligned with market conditions and long-term demand.
· Monitor and analyze commodity markets (e.g. tree nuts, seeds, specialty ingredients) to forecast trends and advise leadership on cost and risk exposure.
· Implement risk mitigation strategies, including diversified sourcing and contract structures (short- and long-term).
Supplier Management & Negotiation
· Lead supplier negotiations to secure optimal pricing, terms, and quality standards.
· Manage global supplier relationships to ensure continuity of supply and cost competitiveness.
· Evaluate supplier performance across delivery, quality, cost, and responsiveness.
Cost Optimization & Forecasting
· Identify and execute cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or brand standards.
· Analyze cost structures (commodity vs. processing) to drive efficiencies.
· Forecast ingredient demand using MRP inputs and update cost projections in partnership with Finance.
Operations & Supply Planning
· Partner with co-manufacturers to align material purchasing, inventory, and production schedules.
· Lead supply continuity planning across seasonality, disruptions, and demand variability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
· Collaborate with Operations, Finance, R&D and Quality to align procurement with business objectives.
· Support new product development by sourcing high-quality, cost-effective ingredients.
· Ensure supplier capabilities align with innovation priorities and product pipeline needs.
Reporting & Insights
· Prepare executive-level reporting on commodity trends, cost outlooks, supplier performance, and key risks.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
· Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Economics, Food Science, or related field.
· 7+ years’ experience in commodity sourcing, supply chain or CPG procurement
· Deep experience managing ingredient and packaging suppliers, with a focus on building long-term partnerships
· Experience working in large and small CPG procurement environments
· Demonstrated ability to thrive in high-paced, dynamic environments with strong sense of ownership and bias for action
· Ability to navigate ambiguity and rapid change in a growing brand
· Knowledge of futures markets and ingredient‑cost hedging
· Deep category expertise in food ingredients, agricultural commodities, or natural/organic CPG
· Results-oriented mindset with strong cross-functional problem-solving skills
· Track record in contract negotiation, supplier management, and cost control
· Strong negotiation and contract management skills
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities
Preferred
· Experience in natural foods, high‑growth CPG, or snack/granola categories
· Familiar with retailer launches, resets, and promotional planning cycles
· MBA or advanced supply chain degree
