Spartanburg Regional Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS) —a mission-driven, community-focused health system committed to advancing health and wellness across the Upstate region. Our Foundation builds meaningful partnerships with individuals, businesses, and organizations to raise and steward funds that support innovative patient care, cutting-edge technology, capital improvements, healthcare scholarships, and community health initiatives.
We are looking for a passionate, strategic, and relationship-driven Director of Philanthropy to join our dynamic philanthropy team and help us grow our mission of improving lives through giving.
What You Will Be Doing: As Director of Philanthropy , you will lead efforts to cultivate meaningful donor relationships, implement innovative fundraising strategies, and drive philanthropic investment in support of our healthcare system and community impact. You will work alongside a passionate team to secure major gifts, develop annual campaigns, and steward donor engagement through events and recognition efforts.
You will serve as a key external face of the Foundation—building and maintaining a portfolio of top donors and prospects, crafting compelling cases for support, and championing the transformative impact of healthcare philanthropy.
Core Responsibilities: Fundraising Strategy & Execution: Lead the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
Maintain a portfolio of at least 50 top-level prospects and donors, securing philanthropic gifts of $1M+ annually or per project.
Develop and implement fundraising campaigns (annual giving, capital, major gifts, planned giving).
Collaborate with the Executive Director to shape and execute fundraising plans with measurable goals and timelines.
Partner with the team to prepare strong proposals, donor communications, and events.
Donor Engagement & Stewardship: Act as a key liaison for donors—understanding their philanthropic goals and aligning them with Foundation and healthcare system priorities.
Build lasting relationships and deliver personalized stewardship to ensure meaningful, long-term engagement.
Promote and secure planned gifts while supporting planned giving strategies across the Foundation.
Foundation Advocacy & Communication: Be an enthusiastic ambassador for Spartanburg Regional Foundation and Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.
Clearly articulate our mission, share patient impact stories, and inspire generosity.
Engage with the community through outreach, events, and presentations.
Collaboration & Leadership: Serve as a trusted partner to SRHS leadership, clinical teams, and internal stakeholders.
Support and work closely with Foundation board members, advisory committees, volunteers, and community leaders.
Contribute to the overall vision, culture, and success of the Foundation.
Qualifications: Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree.
7+ years of experience in healthcare fundraising, nonprofit development, or a related field.
Proven fundraising track record with a portfolio of $1M+ annually or per project.
Exceptional communication, writing, and relationship-building skills.
Preferred: Master’s degree.
Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE).
Experience working with a healthcare foundation or hospital system.
Additional Expectations: Must be willing to travel within a 30-mile radius and be available for occasional evening or weekend events.
Must demonstrate high emotional intelligence, professional integrity, and a genuine passion for philanthropy.
