JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Philanthropy, Western Region, is responsible for engaging high-net-worth individuals and family foundations to secure funding for CARE’s mission through unrestricted and program-specific gifts. Reporting to a Senior Director of Philanthropy, this role manages a portfolio of current and prospective donors capable of giving between $10,000 and $100,000. The director develops and executes strategies for donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship to build long-term relationships. They aim to bring donors closer to CARE’s mission through personalized outreach, meetings, and events, securing funding for urgent humanitarian needs and development projects while increasing donor investment over time.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising
Manage a portfolio of 100–150 donors and prospects, developing tailored engagement strategies.
Secure gifts of $10,000 and above, focusing on $25,000+ gifts, and meet or exceed fundraising goals.
Collaborate with the Major Gifts team and CARE leadership to educate donors about their impact and provide investment opportunities.
Share the impact donors make, ensuring they feel valued and connected to CARE’s mission and projects.
Build meaningful connections and community, acting as a liaison between funders, Board Members, program leaders, and partners.
Support fundraising efforts in emerging markets by cultivating high-potential donors outside the U.S. and working with CARE International partners.
Prospect and Pipeline Development
Identify and cultivate new major gift prospects through events and gatherings.
Build and activate a pipeline of major donors via events, influencers, emergencies, DAFs, and Board networks.
Partner with Prospect Research to identify emerging donors and create engagement strategies.
Maintain accurate donor records and pipelines in Salesforce.
Internal Collaboration
Work with CARE’s internal teams to strengthen donor relationships.
Represent the Major Gifts team positively, fostering internal relationships and embodying CARE’s values of inclusion, integrity, and partnership.
