About The Record Co. The Record Co. is Boston's nonprofit music workspace, creating accessible pathways to music creation that strengthen our community through professional resources and genuine creative connections. Our 12,500-square-foot facility serves 4,000+ monthly musicians through affordable studios, rehearsal spaces, and career development programs.
Position Overview The Director of Operations leads organizational infrastructure, systems, and change initiatives that advance our mission. This senior leadership role combines strategic oversight with hands-on execution, managing facilities, technology, human resources, and operational transformation while ensuring seamless daily operations that support our music community.
Essential Responsibilities Operational Leadership & Change Management (40%) Lead organizational change initiatives and transformation projects
Develop and implement strategic operational plans aligned with mission goals
Manage facility operations across 20+ bookable spaces and technical infrastructure
Oversee budget management, financial systems, and resource allocation
Drive process improvement and operational efficiency initiatives
Lead crisis management and emergency response protocols
Team Leadership & Human Resources (25%) Manage HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, and performance management
Lead change communication strategies across all organizational levels
Develop and implement staff training and professional development programs
Foster a collaborative culture and resolve cross-departmental challenges
Ensure compliance with employment laws and organizational policies
Support the executive team with strategic planning and implementation
Systems & Technology Management (20%) Oversee technology infrastructure, booking systems, and data management
Lead system integration projects and digital transformation initiatives
Manage vendor relationships and technology partnerships
Ensure data security, privacy compliance, and system reliability
Implement automated workflows and efficiency improvements
Support space utilization optimization through technology solutions
Strategic Communication & Stakeholder Management (15%) Serve as a key communication liaison between departments and leadership
Manage board relations and governance support
Lead internal communications during organizational changes
Coordinate with external partners on operational matters
Develop and maintain operational documentation and procedures
Support fundraising through operational impact reporting
Required Qualifications 5+ years of senior operations management experience, preferably in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations
Proven track record leading organizational change management initiatives
Strong background in human resources, budget management, and systems oversight
Excellence in written and verbal communication across diverse stakeholders
Experience managing facility operations and coordinating multiple departments
Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in the relevant field
Preferred Qualifications Experience in arts, culture, or community-focused organizations
Background in technology implementation and system integration
Knowledge of nonprofit compliance and governance requirements
Experience with crisis management and emergency planning
Understanding of Boston's creative economy and music ecosystem
Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish)

Working Environment Full-time position at 960 Mass Ave, Boston
Some evening and weekend availability for events and emergency response

Compensation & Benefits Salary Range: $85,000 - $100,000 based on experience
