Cohen Eye Institute is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Operations and Business Development to oversee the daily operations of our busy ophthalmology practice in Queens, NY, and to lead strategic initiatives that drive growth and innovation. This high-impact leadership role requires a strong blend of operational excellence, business development savvy, and a passion for delivering an outstanding patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
Oversee and optimize patient scheduling workflows and staff coordination.
Ensure smooth day-to-day clinic operations across departments.
Staff Leadership
Hire, train, and manage administrative and clinical teams.
Conduct performance evaluations and maintain up-to-date staff protocols and manuals.
Financial Oversight
Manage billing, accounts receivable/payable, provider incentive structures, and financial reporting.
Negotiate vendor contracts and ensure cost-efficiency.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
Ensure HIPAA compliance, accurate medical record-keeping, and MIPS reporting.
Conduct chart audits and maintain regulatory adherence.
Office Administration
Maintain equipment, inventory, and office systems to support operational efficiency.
Patient Experience
Lead initiatives to elevate the patient experience and satisfaction.
Address patient concerns and implement service quality improvements.
Business Development & Growth Strategy
Identify and execute strategies for revenue growth and service expansion.
Develop new referral sources and strengthen relationships with existing partners.
Collaborate on new location openings, partnerships, and service lines.
Analyze market trends and recommend strategic opportunities.
Support the marketing team with initiatives that enhance brand visibility and patient acquisition.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in private medical practice management ( ophthalmology strongly preferred )
Proven success in business development, strategic planning, or growth initiatives
Strong leadership, HR, and project management capabilities
Proficiency in EMR systems, Microsoft Office, and QuickBooks
Expertise in medical billing, insurance credentialing, and compliance
Financial acumen and the ability to interpret and act on performance data
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Visionary mindset with the ability to execute and lead change
