RATE: $75,000.00 Annually
SUMMARY
The Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall performance of the Division of Health Professions and Human Services . The Director oversees the development, implementation, and assessment of the Nursing AAS program and uses collaborative partnerships to ensure the program meets educational and industry standards. The Director also works directly with the Human Services and Emergency Medical Technician program coordinators on program planning and effectiveness. This is a twelve-month professional position.
QUALIFICATIONS
An active, unencumbered New York State license as a Registered Nurse.
A master's degree in a program that included preparation for nursing education, and should possess qualities of leadership, which enable the individual to stimulate and coordinate the activities of the faculty.
Experiential background should include at least five years of college teaching and/or administration, preferably at the associate degree level.
Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism, flexibility, and confidentiality

Ability to lead teams effectively
Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written forms
Proven organizational and time management skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee the preparation of division teaching assignments and schedules for the fall, spring, winter, and summer in accordance with the policies and procedures established in the Office of the VPAA. Plan semester schedule of classes and oversee development of individual plan for all nursing student schedules, including clinical schedules and clinical affiliates.
Be knowledgeable concerning nursing and nursing education in general and associate degree nursing education in particular.
Actively work with the Admissions and Public Relations Office to recruit new students for the division's degree programs and certificates. Assist with recruitment, admission, and scheduling of students to the division programs and certificates. Oversee the process of students seeking readmission to the Nursing program.
Direct the development and evaluation of policies and standards for the selection, admission, and graduation of nursing students.
Review and publish Nursing Student Handbook annually.
Work with the Vice President of Institutional Advancement to enhance the nursing graduate alumni program.
Promote teaching excellence, professional development, and service to the college and community. Conduct annual/periodic performance evaluations for faculty and staff in accordance with contract and college policies. Administer individual improvement programs where applicable.
Serve as chair for all division faculty peer review committees.
Manage division faculty issues, adhering to contract and college policy.
Create and maintain an environment conducive to teaching and learning.
Construct and monitor the department budgets. Monitor and control resources. Coordinate and provide for the equipment, space, and other environmental needs of the department. Budget and plan for securing and maintaining up-to-date Skills Lab equipment and supplies.
Prepare and administer the annual department budget with input from department faculty.
Participate in grant writing to meet the needs of the department.
Coordinate and direct ongoing curriculum development and review the division's degree programs, certificates, and articulation agreements. Develop, evaluate, and maintain the program curriculum to meet state, regional, national, and local health care needs/regulations. Regularly assess program and course outcomes. Conduct surveys as listed in the SPE, and aggregate and trend data for decision-making and program improvement.
Assist in the development of Allied Health programs at the College.
Plan for, schedule, and develop contracts with clinical facilities for the implementation of the curriculum. Perform annual maintenance of effort with all clinical agreements. Maintain good working relations with all clinical affiliates and attend all meetings of clinical affiliates. Research and recruit new clinical opportunities.
Review and update the Systematic Plan for Evaluation (SPE) annually according to NYSED Office of Professions guidelines.
Meet all required standards for safety and confidentiality.
Instruct, supervise, and execute all RN licensing applications for students-instruct students in licensure requirements. Verify good standing for graduate licensure. Stay current with all professional licensing requirements.
Address student concerns or difficulties with the division faculty and/or program and monitor the same. Review student misconduct reports requiring disciplinary action and counsel students regarding reports.
Review the academic progress of students on an ongoing basis with nursing faculty. Meet as appropriate with students who are withdrawing or being dismissed from the program.
Work closely with division chairs, program coordinators, and faculty to maintain high academic standards, promote student success, and foster student retention.
Cultivate and sustain high-impact partnerships with The University of Vermont Health Network - CVPH, and other local hospitals, clinical sites, and healthcare systems. Lead the development and facilitation of a nursing advisory board composed of key stakeholders from partner institutions, providing a structured forum for input on curriculum relevance, clinical competencies, and emerging healthcare trends.
Identify and pursue innovative opportunities for expanded collaboration, including shared research initiatives, grant-funded projects, and workforce pipeline development.
Communicate College policies and procedures to the division faculty and monitor adherence to the same.
Actively participate in the search process and hiring of the division's full-time faculty. Coordinate recruitment, hiring, mentoring, supervision, and scheduling of all full and part-time faculty/clinical adjuncts.
Coordinate the preparation of operational plans for the division. Lead the faculty in establishing and maintaining a long-term vision for the division through the development of program objectives.
Maintain the program in good standing with the accrediting agencies-complete annual SED reports. Collect and interpret data to evaluate and report program outcomes. Cooperate with all reporting activities and track student progress for reporting purposes.
Direct the NYSEDOP self-study process and coordinate site visits.
Coordinate program activities and delegate to faculty as appropriate.
Evaluate application materials and interview with potential adjunct faculty for the teaching of division courses. Complete adjunct contract each semester as needed
Oversee the mentoring of new full-time and adjunct faculty in the division and assist with orientation to prepare them for teaching and adhering to departmental and college policies.
Oversee and coordinate the review of syllabi and textbook orders and the completion of classroom observations. Complete classroom and clinical observations of all faculty and adjuncts.
Communicate division concerns to the VPAA.
Gather feedback from division members as requested by the VPAA.
Prepare division meeting and Nursing Retreat agendas, conduct meetings, and post approved minutes in public folders; submit an annual report to the VPAA.
Serve as the division contact person to address questions from other college divisions or offices. Provide division leadership through effective communication inter- and intra-divisionally and between the division and administration. Establish and maintain a constructive and cooperative working relationship with others.
Collaborate with area directors/chairs to network and share resources
Maintain relationships with administrative authorities and other academic and support units for program planning and development.
Articulate and maintain communications with appropriate state and federal bodies for national accreditation and state registration.
Serve as contact person for the Nursing department about state, professional, and accrediting groups, and the community.
Provide leadership for academic advisement and assist others to provide advisement for pre-nursing students.
Functions as the Nursing Club co-advisor to facilitate and supervise Nursing Club activities.
Serve as the officiant at the Capping and Pinning ceremony
Organize and oversee short-term divisional task forces.
Coordinate divisional representation on college-wide committees. Participate in academic strategic planning and assessment.
Participate in various college and Faculty Council committees.
Represent the division at appropriate meetings and events as requested by the College President and the VPAA. Maintain relevant current knowledge of nursing and nursing education in general and associate degree nursing education in particular. Attend Council of Associate Degree Nursing (CADN) and state nursing meetings (minimum of 2x year).
Organize and direct good public relations with all cooperating agencies.
Coordinate division representation at Summer Registrations, CCC Open Houses, High School visits, and division events. Organize and execute major summer nursing orientations and supplementary nursing orientations.
Provide classroom instruction in nursing and/or related sciences.
Teaches 2-6 credits in nursing and/or related sciences per academic year.
Other related professional duties may be assigned after consultation.
Some evenings and weekends required.
