QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess bachelor’s or associates degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
Must have valid/active registered nursing license in the State of Maryland
JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of the Director of Nursing (DON) is to plan, organize, develop, physically assess resident status and direct the overall operation of the Nursing Service Department in accordance with current Federal, State, and Local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator and the Medical Director, to ensure the highest degree of quality care.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leads daily operations for the nursing department and nursing services
Acts as a liaison between the Administrator and nursing services administration
Develops, maintains, reviews, and implements written nursing policies and procedures that govern day-to-day functions
Makes regular rounds to assure optimal quality of care is provided
Interviews, selects, hires, and on-boards new nursing staff
Supervises, trains, and evaluates nursing staff
Develops, maintains, reviews, and implements written nursing policies and procedures that govern day-to-day functions
Meet regularly with administrative staff, department head staff, residents, employees and family and friends of residents
Oversee all record keeping processes and ensuring all necessary documents are accurate and up-to-date
Maintain confidentiality of resident and facility information
Demonstrates respect of resident rights and dignity
Provides direct patient care when necessary
Investigates resident complaints
Collaborates with doctors and executives on resident care, communicating any issues
Designs and manages continuous quality improvement initiatives
Observes all required infection prevention and control policies and procedures
Observes safety policies and reports any safety concerns
Ensures that all guidelines, regulations, and standards are followed
