Director of Nursing – Detox Facility

Garden State Treatment Center - We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to join our team in a licensed New Jersey detox facility. This leadership role requires clinical expertise, supervisory skills, and a deep commitment to quality care in the treatment of substance use disorders. The ideal candidate will foster a compassionate and efficient environment that supports both patients and staff, in alignment with New Jersey state standards and facility goals.
Minimum Qualifications (per NJ Detox Standards):
Must be a Registered Professional Nurse licensed in the State of New Jersey.
Must have one (1) year of supervisory nursing experience OR three (3) years of nursing experience in a detoxification treatment setting.
Responsibilities:
Oversee day-to-day operations of the Nursing Department.
Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate nursing staff in alignment with regulatory standards.
Ensure all nursing services meet state and federal compliance, clinical standards, and internal policies.
Develop and manage nursing schedules and maintain appropriate staffing levels based on census.
Complete performance evaluations and annual competency reviews for staff.
Oversee accurate documentation in EMR systems and coordinate with interdisciplinary teams.
Monitor, review, and approve timesheets for payroll accuracy.
Develop, manage, and monitor the department budget.
Participate in facility-wide performance improvement and quality assurance programs.
Ensure adherence to detox protocols, including COWS and CIWA assessments.
Maintain compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and Department of Human Services regulations.
Required Skills:
Leadership experience in a clinical or residential substance use treatment setting.
Thorough understanding of medical detox procedures and regulations.
Proficiency with electronic medical record systems (e.g., KIPU).
Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and crisis management skills.
Ability to motivate, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary team.
Exceptional organizational, time management, and communication abilities.
Education & Experience:
Graduate of an accredited nursing school (BSN preferred).
Minimum 3 years of experience in medical detox/residential treatment.
Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience or 3 years in a detox facility (per NJ standards).
Familiarity with COWS and CIWA assessments.
Experience with KIPU EMR strongly preferred.
Licensure & Certifications:
Current New Jersey RN license (in good standing).
ACLS and BCLS certification (required).
