Position Title: Director of Legal Operations Location: Los Angeles, CA Reports To: Managing Partner / Chief Operating Officer Type: Full-Time, Exempt Position Overview The Director of Legal Operations at Park Lawless & Tremonti LLP will play a pivotal role in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of our legal department. This position involves overseeing the firm's operational and financial functions, implementing legal technology solutions, managing vendor relationships, and driving process improvements. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of legal expertise, business acumen, and leadership skills to support the firm's strategic objectives. Key Responsibilities Strategic Planning & Process Improvement Develop and implement strategies to optimize legal operations, aligning with the firm's goals and objectives. Identify and lead initiatives to streamline workflows, enhance productivity, and reduce costs across the legal department. Collaborate with senior leadership to establish performance metrics and monitor progress toward operational goals. Financial Management Oversee the legal department's budget, including forecasting, tracking, and reporting on expenses. Manage relationships with outside counsel, ensuring compliance with billing guidelines and identifying opportunities for cost savings. Analyze legal spending patterns and recommend strategies to optimize resource allocation. Technology & Vendor Management Evaluate, implement, and manage legal technology solutions to improve efficiency and support the firm's operations. Oversee vendor relationships, including negotiating contracts and managing service level agreements. Ensure the effective use of legal tech tools, such as e-billing platforms and document management systems. Team Leadership & Development Lead and mentor a team of legal operations professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team capabilities and support career growth. Ensure effective utilization of resources to meet the firm's operational needs. Compliance & Risk Management Ensure the legal department operates in compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards. Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with legal operations and recommend corrective actions as needed. Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with the utmost discretion. Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Law, or a related field; JD or MBA preferred. Experience: Minimum of 8 years in legal operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within a law firm or in-house legal department. Skills: Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting and cost management. Proficiency in legal technology tools and platforms. Excellent project management and organizational skills. Strong communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to lead and motivate a team effectively. Knowledge of legal compliance and risk management principles. Compensation Base Salary: $180,000 – $250,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Bonus: Performance-based incentives.
