Fisher Phillips, a premier international labor and employment law firm, is seeking a Director of IT Operations to join a dynamic, forward-thinking IT team that values innovation, collaboration, and client-focused solutions. The Director of IT Operations plays a critical leadership role in delivering stable, secure, and highly responsive technology services across the firm. This position works in close partnership with the CIO and fellow IT directors to ensure seamless service delivery and operational excellence in support of a fast-paced, client-focused legal environment. The Director is accountable for the reliability, performance, and effectiveness of core IT infrastructure and services, supporting both business continuity and strategic growth initiatives. This leader is expected to drive continuous improvement across support functions while maintaining a strong alignment with firmwide priorities and service expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Service Delivery
Lead the day-to-day delivery of IT operations, ensuring high availability, stability, and performance of all supported systems and services.
Establish and enforce operational best practices, performance metrics, and service standards aligned with a professional services environment.
Maintain a strong focus on user satisfaction and issue resolution, particularly for time-sensitive attorney needs.
Team Oversight & Functional Areas Oversee and guide the following teams and functions
Technical Support - Delivering responsive, high-quality support to attorneys and staff across all offices.
Applications Management - Managing the installation, maintenance, and performance of key firm applications.
Systems and Networking - Ensuring reliability and scalability of both on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure.
Hardware (Assets) - Coordinating device provisioning, refresh cycles, and endpoint support escalations.
IT Facilities Support - Supporting office buildouts, expansions, and relocations with IT infrastructure (e.g., cabling, networking, access systems).
Process & Project Integration Collaborate with the firm's PMO to ensure operational resources are effectively integrated into projects while protecting day-to-day service delivery.
Develop and refine operational processes to support scalability, including incident response, change management, and service desk protocols.
Contribute to the successful implementation of new technologies by supporting transition-to-support processes and operational readiness.
Identify opportunities to enhance operational workflows with AI and automation, partnering with the Director of Technology Transformation to evaluate and implement solutions that improve efficiency and service delivery.
Strategic Alignment & Collaboration Partner with the Director of Technology Transformation to ensure coordination between innovation initiatives and operational capabilities.
Work closely with other IT directors (Information Security, Information Governance, AI, etc.) to ensure alignment across teams.
Participate in long-term planning efforts to modernize infrastructure, improve resilience, and enhance user experience.
Serve as the primary point of contact for key IT vendors, managing relationships, coordinating product evaluations, overseeing renewals, and partnering on quotes, support, and solution planning.
Contribute to operational budgeting and procurement decisions in alignment with firm needs and IT strategy.
Requirements Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; or equivalent work experience
10+ years of progressive IT experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing IT operations, infrastructure, or support services.
Proven experience managing high-performing teams in a professional services or similarly demanding, client-driven environment.
Strong understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure (e.g., networking, servers, virtualization, cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS).
Deep familiarity with ITIL-based service delivery frameworks and operational best practices.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills with a proven ability to influence and collaborate across functions.
Desired Experience Prior experience in a law firm, accounting firm, or other professional services organization is highly preferred.
Experience managing hybrid environments with both on-premise and cloud infrastructure components.
Familiarity with managing IT support during office buildouts and relocations, including vendor coordination and infrastructure setup.
Exposure to legal-specific applications and systems is a plus (e.g., DMS, timekeeping, case management, and docketing).
Experience participating in or supporting vendor management processes.
