East Side House Settlement (ESH) is a community resource in the South Bronx. We believe education is the key that enables all people to create economic and civic opportunities for themselves, their families, and their communities.
East Side House's Early Childhood programs provide Early Head Start and Head Start services in a safe, supportive, educational environment for children ages 18+ months to 5 years of age. Serving 231 children daily from five locations, the comprehensive program is designed to develop the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills of children in a safe, supportive environment. Children and families receive a broad range of educational, nutritional, social, and preventive health services.Our staff foster partnerships with families so that they can support school learning and achievement as well as advocate for their children and themselves. We expect that all staff will work collaboratively, and with the community, to promote school readiness while creating a safe, healthy, and protective environment.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following key activities:
The Director of the Home-Based Program has additional responsibility associated with the management of staff members. Responsibilities include reporting, health/safety/nutritional services, coordination of children with special needs. Responsible for curriculum development and continuity for home-based children and expectant families while supervising the home visitors, parent engagement associates, and doulas of the agency and incorporating the concepts of home base and early head start education. He/she is also responsible for staff, parent activities and workshops, utilizing their skills, technique, and expertise. The Director of Early Head Start Home Base Program is expected to enhance the teaching ability of his/her staff while giving the parents greater insight to child development and the learning process as envisioned in the philosophy of the Early Head Start Home Base Program. Regularly assign home visitors, parent engagement associates and doulas to attend workshops, trainings and classes as deemed appropriate and are responsible for evaluating such staff monthly and annually. Oversees ongoing program and monitoring, reviews, and analyzes the needs of the program to ensure compliance of DOH/HSPS. Monitors the execution of staff responsibilities through monthly supervisory meetings, department team meetings and the review of child files and the inputting of notes and observations into Child Plus. Through monthly meetings and parent groups, facilitate a conduit for interaction and involvement of the parents, he/she functions as Program serves. Coordinates the recruitment plan and screening of new applicants ensuring ERSEA program compliance for participating families. Responsible for the transition process of children from our Early Head Start Home Base Program to our Early Head Start/ Head Start Center Base Programs. Monitors staff to ensure adequate family participation, development of family goals and assessments, connecting families to vital community health and social services. Working with birthing person and families as they explore their values and needs surrounding decision making and birth. Completes 3 visits per family each program year to model best practices for staff members and ensure families are receiving quality services. Monitors the implementation of the home base curriculum, prenatal curriculum, and assessment tools. Regarding daily program operations, sees that each position is adequately staffed. In the absence of a home visitor, family engagement associate and doula he/she will ensure that upon return, staff will fulfill necessary duties that need to be completed in a timely manner. Attends scheduled staff meetings, In-Service Trainings, Educational meetings, and other meetings requested by their supervisor, the Assistant Executive Director or as it relates to education. Support community residents, parents and program participants' active involvement in agency and complete tasks necessary to move these efforts forward. Ensures safety as a priority in performing all job responsibilities. Ensure that the program meets agency, federal, state, and local compliance regulations. Supervise home visitors, family engagement associates and doulas. Serves on the Leadership Team and School Readiness Team. Develops policies and protocols for expectant families and educational outcomes of home base children. Additional responsibilities associated with management of Early Head Start Home Base Program. Responsibilities include health, safety, nutritional services, and coordination of service to children with special needs, purchasing and personnel supervision. Other Duties

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience Baccalaureate degree/accredited college in Early Childhood Development/Education or related field; MA in Education/Early Childhood Education preferred. 1 year paid Administrative/Supervisory experience or direct instructional service provision for 5 years or more is a plus. 3. Certified permanent or initial Certification (N-6) from NYS Department of Education.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. This is a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool, as necessary.
Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time, exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 p.m. Work days/hours are subject to change based on ESH's program needs.
