POSITION SUMMARY The Director of Grants will be responsible for overseeing and managing the grant funding process for the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles. This role drives narrative strategy and ensures internal alignment across fundraising priorities. This role requires exceptional writing, project management, and analytical skills- balancing creative storytelling with data-driven reporting and an eye for detail. This includes prospecting, preparing grant proposals, submitting grant applications , and supporting the cultivation of relationships with funding entities. The Director of Grants is also also responsible for providing leadership and support to the grants team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in a related field such as nonprofit management, public administration, or business administration
At least five years of experience in grant writing, preferably in a nonprofit setting
Experience managing staff (preferred)
Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Knowledge of grant funding sources and trends in the nonprofit sector
Proficiency with donor databases (e.g., Raiser's Edge NXT), prospect research tools (Kindsight/ iWave), Adobe, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerBI, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.)
Ability to work collaboratively with staff at all levels of the organization

WORK ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS You must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Research and identify grant funding opportunities from various sources, including government agencies, foundations, and corporations.
Prepare and submit grant proposals and applications, ensuring that all required documentation is included and deadlines are met.
Promote and cultivate a spirit of collaboration with colleagues across the LA
Manage relationships with grant-making organizations, including submitting reports and maintaining regular communication.
Collaborate with LA Y colleagues to ensure the funding priorities of grant-making organizations align with LA Y initiatives and programs.
Develop and maintain a comprehensive grants calendar to ensure timely submission of grant proposals and applications.
Work with finance and program staff to develop program budgets and ensure compliance with grant
Develop and maintain a grant's tracking system to monitor progress on grants and ensure that reporting requirements are met.
Ensure that all grant-related activities comply with YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles policies and procedures, as well as all relevant laws and regulations.
Provide regular reports on grant funding activities to the Senior Vice President of Mission Advancement and other members of the senior management team.
Supervise and provide leadership to the grants
