This is a hybrid position based in the San Diego office and responsible for all financial planning & analysis activities. The person in this role will build an effective long range planning function from the ground up by developing a robust 3-statement financial model strategy.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Administer budgets, forecasts, variance analysis, and strategic financial planning as summarized through the creation and maintenance of financial models.
Lead the company’s annual budget process and quarterly forecast updates, collaborating across business functions.
Review and interpret internal reporting, including budget-to-actual variance analysis and multi-period financial trend reviews.
Continuously enhance planning processes and model accuracy, aligning forecasts with business drivers and company strategy.
Apply entrepreneurial experience to improve forecasting and planning for efficiency and effectiveness.
Produce regular (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual) and ad hoc management reports to inform executive and Board-level decision making with key data insights and supporting data analytics.
Partner with internal and external stakeholders to enhance financial reporting and strategic analyses.
Participate in strategic planning activities such as long-range planning, executive reporting, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
Experience with 3-statement financial models (P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement) with the ability to link all three financial statements.
Experience creating and managing short-term cash forecasts, operating forecasts, broad company budgets, and fundraising scenarios.
Experience in full P&L analysis, including gross margin, unit economics, and cost structure.
Excellent PC skills in Excel (including but not limited to lookups, complex/compound equations, logical equations, macros, pivot tables, and the ability to understand/build/edit complex financial models).
Confident and comfortable analyzing deep data detail then presenting to and advising executives.
Energized by the prospect of generating complex scenario plans on short timeline.
High intellectual curiosity, ability to exercise independent judgment, and proven experience adapting to emerging direction related to both overall strategy and short-term goals.
Experience with Microsoft D365.
Some experience with commission and royalty calculations could be an extra plus.
Education, Certifications, Licenses
Education (Level and field of study) required/ preferred: Bachelor's degree in finance, business or related quantitative discipline required.
8+ years of FP&A experience in small to mid-sized companies required
Experience in investment banking, biotech, and manufacturing industry in public companies preferred.
Certifications preferred: MBA, CPA, or CMA
Leadership Responsibility (Direct/ Indirect): This position is expected to manage up to 1-2 employees; however, currently it will serve as an individual contributor

Up to 10% of travel time expected

Verbal abilities require communicating with others to exchange information
Occasionally adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions
Work environment involving low/high temperatures; hazardous conditions, low ventilation, noisy environments, small/enclosed spaces
In-person interaction with others indoors and outdoors
Operating and driving motor vehicles; prolonged periods of sitting while driving
Use standard computer, telephone and related equipment for communication, and recordkeeping
Able to travel, including international travel, without personal assistance
