Location: San Diego - Hybrid (2 days on-site, 3 days remote)
Compensation: $140,000 - $170,000 base + 25% bonus (DOE)
Job Summary: Reporting to the Sr. VP of Finance, the Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial planning, internal reporting, and control for the division. This leadership role drives strategic financial decision-making, ensures compliance with GAAP, and supports business operations through proactive analysis and forecasting. The Director also provides oversight in land development budgeting, sales contract administration, and supports key acquisition initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Lead preparation of annual business plans, quarterly forecasts, and monthly updates; analyze performance against targets and drive corrective actions as needed
Partner with the Sr. VP of Finance and cross-functional leadership to develop and implement business strategies aligned with divisional objectives
Identify cost-saving opportunities and drive initiatives to improve margins and long-term return on capital
Oversee land development budgets and participate in land acquisition evaluations to ensure alignment with growth plans
Manage and approve key financial transactions including purchase orders, lot starts, recurring payments, and check requests
Supervise sales contract administration and ensure adherence to financial controls and corporate policies
Recommend improvements to internal reports and processes to enhance decision-making capabilities
Qualifications & Requirements Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business required; Master's degree a plus
CPA required or actively pursuing licensure
6+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including at least 4 years in public accounting
Proven background in the real estate industry; homebuilding experience strongly preferred
Advanced Excel proficiency (VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, pivot tables)
Strong grasp of cash flow modeling, particularly related to land deals and development
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders
Experience with construction loan origination and managing project finances is a plus
Demonstrated leadership with the ability to manage cross-functional initiatives and adapt in a dynamic environment
