Our client, a prominent nonprofit organization with a long-standing commitment to serving children and families, is seeking a strategic and hands-on Accounting Leader to lead financial operations and guide long-term financial sustainability.
This exciting role requires a strong business mind, deep expertise in nonprofit and government grant accounting, strategic planning, as well as navigating government contracts and compliance issues, and the ability to collaborate closely with the CEO, C-suite, and Board of Directors.
In this role, you will lead a talented finance team, shape the financial strategy, ensure fiscal sustainability, regulatory compliance, and alignment with long-term goals.

Responsibilities
Partner with the CEO, executive team, and Board of Directors to develop and execute financial strategy.
Lead all aspects of financial planning, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and long-range planning.
Provide clear, data-driven financial insights and reports to support executive and board decision-making.
Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, general ledger, and fixed assets.
Ensure accurate and timely month-end close processes and financial reporting.
Maintain compliance with GAAP, federal/state grant regulations, and nonprofit audit standards.
Manage government grant accounting and oversee compliance with funder requirements, including revenue recognition and allocation of restricted/unrestricted funds.
Prepare and present board financial packages and collaborate with the Finance Committee.
Supervise and mentor finance staff, promoting accountability, development, and a positive team culture.
Serve as the primary liaison to external auditors, funders, banking institutions, and other financial stakeholders.
Develop and monitor internal controls, policies, and risk management strategies.
Stay current on nonprofit financial best practices, compliance changes, and funding trends.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (required); CPA or MBA (preferred).
Minimum 10 years of progressive financial leadership in the nonprofit sector, including government grant oversight.
Proven expertise in government grant accounting, compliance, and funder reporting.
Strong knowledge of nonprofit revenue recognition and managing restricted/unrestricted funding.
Skilled in both high-level strategic planning and hands-on daily financial operations.
Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial modeling.
Proficient in audit preparation, month-end close optimization, and internal controls.
Exceptional communication and collaboration skills with the ability to engage effectively with C-suite leaders, Board members, auditors, and funders.
Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Familiarity with federal and state financial regulations governing nonprofit organizations.
