Job Duties
The office of Environmental Health is seeking a Director to manages and oversees environmental health and wastewater programs within the agency and integrates program goals, objectives, and services into other agency programs to promote a comprehensive environmental and public health service. This position reports directly to the Deputy Commissioner.
The Director’s role supports the mission of the agency, by protecting public health by preventing the transmission of disease through food, milk, shellfish, water and sewage and to work in partnership with other agencies to protect the environment. This position oversees both state-level programs, but also provides overall state guidance and oversight in coordination with Community Health Services where local health district operations and leadership occurs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge of environmental and public health sciences and practices, public
administration, and management practices and principles, community assessment, program planning and research.
- Comprehensive knowledge of legislative, regulatory, and legal processes.
- Working knowledge of administrative and supervisory principles, human resource management,
financial planning, contracting, marketing, and automated information systems
- Strong organizational, program management, planning and research skills
- Experience leading diverse groups in developing policies and evaluating program needs and options
- Experience communicating with diverse groups (Legislators, Consumers, Operators, or Constituents)
- Experience with data informed decision-making and risk assessments
- Experience providing technical direction and management of large, complex, and varied regulatory programs.
- Experience providing strategic direction and navigating changes in public health practice.
- Experience interpreting and evaluating federal and state environmental health laws, regulations and policies
