Why Join Us: Established, growing and dynamic business with revenues of over $7 billion and over 8,000 employees across 200 locations throughout the US and Canada Industry leading business with largest network in North America and ambitious ongoing expansion plans Responsibilities: The Director of Environmental Health & Safety manages a team of two and reports to the Chief Compliance Officer; you will be responsible for leading the development and execution of programs that ensure compliance and oversight with all applicable safety, environmental, and Department of Transportation regulations. Supporting over 200 locations across North America, this role collaborates with operations, legal, risk, HR, and executive leadership to foster a safe, compliant, and performance-driven workplace culture Develop and implement the company's EHS and DOT compliance strategy aligned with organizational goals, operational priorities, and regulatory requirements Act as a subject matter expert and strategic advisor to executive leadership on EHS and DOT regulatory matters, emerging risks, and compliance obligations Lead, develop, and support a high-performing EHS team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration Oversee the company's safety and environmental compliance programs to ensure adherence to internal standards and external regulatory requirements Direct the DOT compliance program, ensuring full compliance with FMCSA regulations, including driver qualification files, drug and alcohol testing, hours-of-service, and vehicle inspection and maintenance requirements Continuously monitor, interpret, and respond to regulatory developments at the federal, state, provincial, and local levels, ensuring policies and procedures are updated and effectively communicated across the company Manage EHS-related vendor relationships, including service level agreements and performance metrics Perform risk assessments to identify potential hazards and compliance gaps and implement appropriate controls Lead investigations of workplace safety, environmental, and DOT-related incidents on behalf of the company, ensuring root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions Manage environmental risk across the company, including hazardous waste handling, spill response, air and water permits, and emergency response procedures Partner with legal, facilities, ethics and compliance, and risk management teams to reduce liability exposure and coordinate responses to regulatory inspections, enforcement actions, or legal inquiries Oversee the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of training programs covering workplace and driver safety, environmental compliance, and DOT regulations for employees, supervisors, and commercial drivers Promote a proactive safety culture by leading awareness initiatives, including safety campaigns, toolbox talks, and targeted communications Ensure standardized, timely, and accurate reporting of incidents, near misses, inspections, and key performance metrics across all locations Conduct regular audits, inspections, and program reviews to verify compliance with internal standards and external regulatory requirements Maintain centralized dashboards and reporting tools to track performance across all business units Track and analyze key performance indicators, including injury rates, safe driving performance, DOT compliance, training compliance, and audit findings Application Process for Director of Environmental Health & Safety: Qualified professionals are to submit resume to Steve Harrison at: steve@conselium.com
If not based in the San Antonio TX area, you must be prepared to fully relocate there - there is no flexibility on this 10+ years of progressive EHS leadership, ideally in transportation, logistics, dealership, or heavy equipment industries Expert-level knowledge of OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and EPA regulations; familiarity with Canadian standards (CCOHS/TDG) is a plus Demonstrated success leading risk assessments, safety investigations, and DOT compliance initiatives Experience managing vendor SLAs, performance metrics, and cost controls Strong communicator with executive presence and regulatory interface experience High judgment, discretion, and decision-making ability in dynamic environments Bachelor's degree preferred; Master's degree a plus CSP or equivalent certification preferred (or willing to obtain within 12 months) Willingness to travel 25-40%
