Director of Engineering
Primary Role:
Responsible for day-to-day management and leadership of the engineering team knowledgeable in the systems provided and supported. Responsible for providing pre- and post-sales support to sales and technical staff on integrated low-voltage systems. Must have ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
Responsibilities:
Overall leadership of the engineering and management of internal processes on related projects Provide sales and technical staff with technical support on both a pre- and post- sales basis Manage flow of projects and quotes through the engineering process to improve turn-around time and accuracy Manage engineering and design projects spanning multiple products/verticals Provide high end technical support for customer-related service issues Assist sales staff with joint sales calls to customer site. This may require the Engineering Manager to perform technical presentations and provide support Assist sales and estimating staff by providing support with system design and estimate preparation Manage vendor relationships by addressing product updates, product problems, and high-end troubleshooting issues Responsible for documenting all procedures and processes Provide technical support to internal and external customers Supply installation instruction to job file Assist with training internal and/or sales staff on new products and/or systems Actively participate in personal and professional development and maintain knowledge of current and new technologies that the company offers Coach engineering personnel for increased knowledge and job performance to meet company objectives. Work closely with sales and operations executives to respond to marketplace demands for new technology including product assessment and prototyping new offerings. Develop designs for customer data networks (hardware and infrastructure) Create parts lists and specifications for customer network designs Assist field personnel in the troubleshooting of customer data networks Other duties as required or assigned by company management Accountability:
The Engineering Manager will be accountable to the Vice President Operations. Secondary accountability will be to the other management team members, employees and customers of the company.
Qualifications:
The Engineering Manager shall possess a bachelor's degree with 5 years of design/engineering experience in integrated systems. Demonstrated technical expertise with integrated low-voltage systems, software applications, and network and access systems. Must have superior analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate and solve network problems in a timely manner. A minimum of 3 years' working experience in the electronics field is required. Minimum of 3 years of experience leading a team of engineers, with demonstrated success in team management and project execution. This person must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work well with other people.

Occasional travel to customers and vendor sites is required.
Additional Skills and Abilities: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be responsible, self-motivated, self-starter, personable and well-organized. Superior customer service skills to deal with both internal and external customers. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse groups. Proficiency in the use of personal computers including such programs as MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, CAD programs, and iSquareFoot. Ability to demonstrate planning, organizing and implementing skills which allow the successful completion of a project by a specific due date. Must be able to effectively handle stressful situations. Must be able to read and effectively interpret general business documentation. Valid and current driver's license. Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements: Employees are required to stand, walk, climb, sit and use hands and fingers. Some light lifting of objects is required. Reaching, grasping and carrying activities also required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Although most work is performed inside, occasional outside activities are subject to seasonal temperature fluctuations.
