Psionic, Inc is seeking a, motivated, fast-paced Director of Engineering with proven engineering leadership experience and will be located onsite, in Hampton, VA. We value a diverse, hands-on background to build a team and develop products from concept to manufacture for customers in space, defense and aviation sectors.
Job Description
You will lead your team in the development of products from concept to manufacture for customers in space, defense and aviation sectors. You will serve as a key advisor to the Senior VP of Operations and Engineering for technology, business development and manufacturing.
You will work closely with the SVP for Operations and Engineering and the Principal Engineers to help meet engineering needs. Experience in product development is crucial as well as deep understanding of technical sources for electronic and electro-optical components and innovation. We are disrupting several markets and expect to continuously add to our competitive advantages. You will be responsible for building on our strong technical team to create a superior technical organization that meets current commitments and invents new capabilities. Proven, effective written and oral communication skills are essential.
The work involves planning, executing and monitoring analysts, designers, software/hardware developers, simulation tools, testing, and conducting performance validation and verification of optical and photonic elements, electronic data processing, controls, and instrumentation systems. These will be used for detecting, recording, measuring, or controlling physical conditions, phenomena, and environments encountered in aviation (aeronautical and aerospace) development programs.
Required Education & Requirements
BS degree or higher in Physics, Mathematics or Engineering is required
Experience leading engineering product teams
Strong oral and written communication skills
History of successful engineering development efforts and leading/building engineering teams
Strong teamwork, a desire to learn and driven to improve
Experience at a fast-paced and demanding start-up.

Provide technology leadership, inspire your team and proactively bring new ideas, technologies, and methodologies to the table.
Understand the foundational technology and engineering disciplines for laser and LIDAR solutions, opto-electronic technology and sensors for guidance, planning, mapping, navigation and control of autonomous vehicles
Partner with the executive team and product management on all aspects of the business from strategy to product development to manufacturing
Using market, technical, and competitive intelligence to build partnerships with other technical organizations based on company strategy
Become a trusted advisor to the executive team, customers, and to your engineering leadership
Set and deliver on aggressive, innovative goals
