Job Description
Position Summary
The Director of Development will report to the Executive Director and work closely with all members of the COA team. The Director of Development will be responsible for developing and implementing COA's comprehensive development plan. The Director of Development leads the Alliance's philanthropic fundraising efforts, ensuring the Alliance has the resources needed to fulfill its mission to build a better early childhood education system. In addition to direct fundraising, the Director is an expert in ECE funding opportunities and serves as a resource to ECE entities in the County in their fundraising efforts.
Primary Responsibilities
Fundraising Lead the Alliance's private philanthropy fundraising effort Research, identify, qualify, solicit and steward philanthropic funders, including individuals, foundations and corporations Create and execute an annual development plan Create and maintain donor management system to track engagement, goals, and giving Work with Executive Director in her role as a front-line fundraiser for philanthropy and public dollars Write grant proposals and reports to funders Lead the board resource development committee: organize 4 - 6 meetings year, work with chair to develop agenda, ensure meetings are open to the public as dictated by County legislation, implement outcomes and manage workflow Support the board in understanding their role in fundraising for the organization Plan and execute events with a primary or secondary philanthropy component Identify funding opportunities for ECE entities in the county, and provide grant writing support as necessary Qualifications
Experience At least 7 years of nonprofit or campaign development experience Diverse fundraising experience required; major gift fundraising experience preferred Familiarity or experience with political fundraising Proven manager, administrator of day-to-day operations Event planning experience Excellent written and oral communication skills Experience working collaboratively with nonprofits and small businesses Competencies Team player and collaborator Thoughtful about relationship development and maintenance with a wide range of stakeholders in the ECE community, including donors, elected officials, child care providers, and families Ability to represent the Alliance in the community Have an understanding of the early childhood education system in Montgomery County
Additional Information
Compensation
Salary range for this role is $95-110k annually, dependent on qualifications and experience.

This position requires the ability to perform the essential functions of an office-based role, including prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, communicating effectively in person and via phone/email, and occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds.
