Job Summary
The Director of Development leads all fundraising and communication strategies for Literacy Achieves, overseeing grants, special events, donor engagement, and campaigns to meet both short- and long-term goals.
In this role, you’ll manage a development team, build relationships with donors and community partners, and collaborate across departments to align fundraising with program priorities. You’ll also champion clear, inspiring communications that strengthen our brand and help donors accomplish their philanthropic goals.
Responsibilities
Fundraising & Donor Engagement
Lead strategy and implementation for all fundraising initiatives, including North Texas Giving Day , year-end appeals, estate giving, monthly donors, and major gifts
Oversee the full grant pipeline using Monday.com , writing and managing proposals and reports
Maintain your own donor portfolio and support the Executive Director in cultivating major donors
Ensure exceptional stewardship through timely follow-up, recognition, and personalized engagement
Plan and execute fundraising events, including our signature Wings of Spring Gala
Cultivate new partnerships with interfaith groups, corporations, and community organizations
Use Bloomerang CRM to track donor engagement, giving trends, and retention
Leadership & Strategy
Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop and refine the annual fundraising and communications plan
Supervise the development team, providing coaching, structure, and support
Serve as staff liaison to the board development committee and support board fundraising involvement
Represent the organization at meetings and donor events
Actively contribute to leadership team conversations and cross-departmental alignment
Communications
Develop and manage a comprehensive communications strategy across print, digital, and social media
Ensure consistent, mission-aligned messaging across all donor and public-facing materials
Oversee website updates, donor newsletters, social content, annual reports, and appeal letters
Manage direct-mail and digital campaigns, working with vendors and internal stakeholders
Serve as point of contact for media and public relations inquiries
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in fundraising, communications, or development—preferably in the nonprofit sector
Proven success in grant writing, donor cultivation, and campaign planning
Excellent interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills
Experience managing staff or vendors
Familiarity with Bloomerang , Monday.com , or similar donor/project management tools
Strategic thinker with a collaborative mindset and passion for equity, access, and lifelong learning
