The Opportunity We’re seeking a passionate and visionary Director of Development to lead the charge in expanding our impact and ensuring that every child in Nevada has access to books and literacy programs. As a key member of our executive leadership team, you’ll oversee fundraising, marketing, and community engagement initiatives that directly support our $3.5M annual mission.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all fundraising efforts, including major gifts, corporate and foundation partnerships, grants, sponsorships, and legacy giving.
Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with organizational goals.
Build and maintain relationships with donors, partners, and community leaders to advance the mission.
Oversee planning and execution of signature events, including the Annual Storybook Gala and community fundraisers.
Direct the organization’s marketing, communications, and public relations strategy to strengthen brand visibility.
Supervise and mentor the Development and Marketing teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
Partner with the CEO and Board on strategic initiatives and long-term sustainability planning.
Manage departmental budget and ensure compliance with fundraising ethics and nonprofit best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree or CFRE certification preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive fundraising experience, including 3+ years in management or leadership roles.
Proven success in major gift fundraising, donor cultivation, and event-based revenue generation.
Experience in corporate, foundation, and government relations preferred.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and influence others.
Excellent organizational and project management abilities; able to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and donor management software (e.g., Donorview, Salesforce, etc.).
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for events or donor engagement.
Valid Nevada driver’s license, current insurance, and reliable transportation required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment This role operates primarily in a professional office setting with frequent local travel for meetings and events. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and stand or walk for extended periods during events. The position requires occasional evening and weekend work. The noise level ranges from moderate (office) to high (event environments).
