The University of Mary Washington is seeking a motivated self-starter for a Director of Development position. The Director of Development is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major and principal gift prospects of $25K+ for the purposes of garnering support for university initiatives. Working closely with colleagues in Advancement and Alumni Engagement, and across the University, the Director of Development is responsible for managing and building a portfolio of 100-150 prospects capable of making current-use, endowed, or planned gifts of $25K or more, with an emphasis on parents, alumni celebrating reunion years, and athletics. The Director will be responsible for meeting annual metrics for prospects visited, proposals presented, and dollars raised. This position requires extensive travel to visit with alumni, donors, and prospects, as well as regular interaction with members of the broader University community. Required KSAs/Competencies/Qualifications Knowledge of advancement functions, including fundraising campaigns, preferably within a higher education environment

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

High degree of integrity and professionalism, with the ability to handle confidential information in a discreet and courteous manner
Ability and willingness to travel frequently, including overnight travel
Proficiency with fundraising database and information system technologies, data analytics tools, and Microsoft software
Demonstrated understanding of fundraising best practices
Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills
Demonstrated understanding of planned giving vehicles
Strong commitment to the mission of public higher education and appreciation for the role of philanthropy in its success
Required Experience: 2+ years managing a fundraising portfolio of major gift prospects in a higher education or nonprofit setting
2+ years securing five- and six-figure donor gifts, private grants, and/or corporate support in a higher education or nonprofit setting
Experience working with confidential information
Successful record of managing multiple and complex projects, meeting deadlines, effectively working with a wide variety of colleagues and collaborators, and flexibly adapting to changing priorities and needs. Additional Considerations:

Experience with Banner and/or Raiser’s Edge CRM
Proven track record of meeting visit and revenue goals in previous positions
Experience managing volunteers in a fundraising capacity
Experience soliciting and managing corporate sponsorships
Grant-writing experience
Experience preparing campus partners and senior leaders to support fundraising efforts
Experience:
4+ years managing a fundraising portfolio of major gift prospects in a nonprofit or higher education setting
4+ years’ securing five-, six-, and seven-figure gifts in a nonprofit or higher education setting
