Director of Development Events & Giving Engagement is a detailed-oriented professional that works collaboratively with the Chief Development Officer - Gaston College Foundation in the strategic planning, design, coordination, and execution of fundraising of events (athletics, academics, scholarships, sponsorships, communications, etc.). The ideal candidate also has experience with annual giving and community engagement. All of these tasks will be in support of the Gaston College Foundation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Special Events and Community Outreach
Responsible for the development and execution of fundraising events.
Support College personnel, as needed, in developing event strategies, planning, and implementation.
Maintain event calendars and timelines.
Recruit & manage event committees to ensure successful planning and execution.
Schedule planning meetings, prepare agendas, document meeting notes, email updates, and follow-up on task, assignments, and meetings.
Serve as primary point for event logistics.
In collaboration with College Marketing, develop event marketing materials, including a comprehensive online and social media outreach strategy.
Distribute invitations, announcements, and other event communications.
Manage post-event follow-up and donor stewardship.
Annual Fund
Implement and support fundraising activities that promote annual giving to support Gaston College.
Serve as the point of contact for alumni inquiries with the Chief Development Officer (CDO).
Cultivate, solicit, and steward annual level donors through email marketing, crowdfunding, and physical mailers.
In collaboration with College Marketing, develop annual giving marketing materials, including a comprehensive online and social media outreach strategy around annual fund campaigns.
In collaboration with CDO, establish and manage both annual goals, and long-range plans to promote engagement.
Participate in regular meetings and provide updates to development and leadership team members to ensure ongoing communication for success.
Coordinate with the Manager- Development Operations to ensure constituent information and steward records are recorded in a timely and accurate manner.
Manages the Gaston College employee giving campaign.
Administration & Communication Responsibilities
Regularly upload all cultivation conversations with external individuals into Raiser’s Edge.
Coordinate the regular maintenance of the Foundation website and social media pages, in coordination with the Director of Marketing & Communications, to ensure information is accurate and up to date.
Direct the development and dissemination of electronic communications.
Regularly handle sensitive and confidential information with judgment and tact.
General
This position reports to the Chief Development Officer.
In collaboration with College Stakeholders and Foundation Board of Directors
Maintain a high standard of professional and ethical practices in representing the College, Development Office, and Foundation; maintain confidentiality of donor information and records; demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the field with continued adherence to professional accountability; provide a high level of service to customers by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and partnerships; accept responsibility for managing situations and problems; work cooperatively with team members and colleagues, contributing positively and constructively to the achievement of team and College objectives; and adhere to the College’s policies, procedures, and other established guidelines.
Oversee projects and tasks assigned by the Chief Development Officer, as needed and appropriate.
Responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising work-study students as needed and appropriate.
Design and manage strategic special projects aimed at advancing Gaston College and the Gaston College Foundation.
Perform other duties as assigned, including special projects.
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of (3) years of experience in event planning and/or fundraising is required, experience in higher education development and/or intercollegiate athletic events & fundraising preferred.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required.
Strong critical/analytical thinking and decision-making skills required.
Exceptional customer service skills and ability to collaborate with diverse constituents in external facing role required.
Exceptional planning, coordination, and project management skills required.
Ability to handle confidential information with great sensitivity required.
Excellent time management skills required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.
Working knowledge of Raiser's Edge and Wordpress (or similar content management system) preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Generally works in a traditional climate-controlled office environment and requires the ability to sit for extended periods.
Some walking, standing, and bending are required, and the ability to lift and maneuver items weighing up to 25 pounds required.
Work environment can be stressful at times in dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines.
In addition to regular office hours, the position will require work during weekend and/or evening hours.
