Director - Career and Technical Education (Pending availability of funds and Board of Education’s approval) The Superintendent invites all qualified individuals and interested persons to apply for the position of Director – Career and Technical Education.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
New Jersey Department of Education Standard Principal Certificate
New Jersey Department of Education School Administrator Certificate (Preferred).
New Jersey Department of Education Teacher Certification.
Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in teaching and supervising Career and Technical Education personnel.
Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience working as a Principal (Preferred).
Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
Ability to read, write, speak and understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.

DEFINITION : As a leader in his/her respective fields, he/she assumes responsibility for the management, monitoring, and articulation, of his/her designated instructional educational programs.

BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Sets policy, organization, and duties of departmental staff.
Initiates short and long range planning.
Makes recommendations for curriculum development and implementation.
Make recommendations for program development and implementation.
Researches and informs with regard to trends in education, resources, and materials.
Maintains productive liaison with school administrators, teachers, pupils, business and community groups.
Maintains productive liaison with appropriate administrators at the county, state and federal levels.
Maintains active membership in professional organizations representing the Newark School District for that area.
Promotes a positive climate though public relations efforts.
Cooperates with other departments, municipal agencies, business groups, and local institutions to mutual advantage.
Makes recommendations with regard to the appointment and assignments of supervisors, teachers, and department of civil service staff.
Supervises, maintains records and evaluates programs.
Prepares reports requested by central office administrators, local, state and federal agencies.
Acts as a consultant in the selection of books, supplies and materials of instruction.
Prepares original and subsequent revised budgets for department locations.
Prepares proposals for programs funded by state and federal grants.
Provides a program of department services for schools.
Serves as a leader and participant on professional committees.
Assists in the recruitment of instructional personnel.
Prepares plans and specification for new, relocated, and renovated activity or special service rooms, which includes specifications for appropriate furniture and equipment.
Arranges for transfer of equipment and supplies.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; the ability to select, develop, and implement innovative practices to drive improved educational outcomes.
Ability to coordinate and collaborate with diverse groups of professionals across multiple departments and organizations to achieve unified, consistent practices.
Ability to effectively achieve multiple goals and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Perform other duties and tasks assigned by Supervisor.
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning
SALARY, EMPLOYMENT PERIOD AND UNION AFFILICATION Salary: Compensation is competitive and based on experience. The salary range for this position is $156,000-$171,000.
Employment Period: Twelve (12) Months
Union Affiliation: City Association of Supervisors and Administrators (C.A.S.A.)
