Job Summary
As the Director of Business Intelligence at Sundt, you will play a pivotal leadership role in shaping and executing the company's enterprise-wide analytics strategy. Reporting to senior IT leadership and working closely with the Director of Data Engineering, you will lead a team of BI architects, analysts, and developers to deliver actionable insights that inform strategic decisions and operational improvements. You will champion data-driven thinking across the organization by ensuring the delivery of accurate, timely, and relevant information through dashboards, self-service tools, and advanced analytics. Your work will help translate raw data into clear narratives that empower leaders across all business units, ensuring alignment with Sundt's mission and long-term strategic goals. This is a highly collaborative and visible role requiring both technical depth and a strong understanding of business operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership and Enablement
• Provide strategic leadership for the Business Intelligence team, setting a clear vision and roadmap for enterprise analytics while fostering a high-performance culture centered on data integrity and excellence.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with key stakeholders, including the Director of Data Engineering, to align BI strategy with enterprise goals and ensure consistent data architecture and scalable practices.
• Champion a data-driven culture by promoting data literacy and self-service analytics across the organization to empower informed decision-making at all levels.
Analytics and Insight Delivery
• Lead the development and delivery of executive dashboards, KPIs, and advanced analytics to support strategic decision-making and drive business performance across the organization.
• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and visualization quality, applying best practices in validation and design to deliver trusted, actionable insights to stakeholders.
• Partner with operational leaders to translate business needs into scalable BI solutions, enabling real-time, self-service analytics and incorporating predictive models and machine learning where applicable.
Data Governance and Standards
• Establish and enforce standards for BI development, data definitions, and reporting consistency.
• Support enterprise data governance initiatives by working closely with data stewards and the Director of Data Engineering to ensure lineage, security, and compliance.
Partnership and Collaboration
• Act as a strategic liaison between IT, business functions, and data engineering, ensuring alignment and prioritization of BI initiatives.
• Participate in enterprise projects to ensure analytics needs are captured and embedded from the beginning of system or process changes.
• Partner with Finance, Operations, Safety, HR, and other key functions to identify opportunities for BI innovation and business value.
Tools and Technology Management
• Provide oversight of BI platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, etc.) and evaluate new tools that enhance the analytic maturity of the organization.
• Ensure data models and reports are optimized for performance, scalability, and usability.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• 7+ years of BI leadership experience: Proven success in building and managing BI teams and delivering enterprise-scale reporting and analytics platforms.
• Strong analytical and storytelling skills: Ability to distill complex data into executive-level narratives that drive action.
• Expertise in BI and data visualization tools: Power BI, Tableau, or similar, plus advanced proficiency in SQL and familiarity with cloud data platforms (e.g., Azure Synapse, Snowflake).
• Data governance and quality: Experience with implementing enterprise reporting standards and supporting master data and metadata management initiatives.
• Business acumen: Deep understanding of how different departments use data to improve business outcomes, particularly in construction or project-based industries.
• Collaboration and influence: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to build trust and credibility at all levels of the organization.
Required Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., CBIP, PMP, Six Sigma) preferred.
• Experience working in or supporting construction, engineering, or related industries is a plus.
• Demonstrated track record of leading business transformation through data and analytics.
• Familiarity with Agile or hybrid project management methodologies in a BI environment.
