The primary role of the Director of Business Development is to drive the firm\'s revenue growth, enhance brand awareness through key initiatives, and manage the Business Development and Proposals Teams across the U.S. This leadership role is responsible for driving strategy across the firm\'s industry and practice groups and for developing and implementing comprehensive, firm-wide business development strategies. The Director will work with firm leadership to strengthen client relationships, generate new revenue, and lead change initiatives as needed.
Responsibilities Lead the development, execution and review of strategies and related initiatives for the related practices and lawyers.
Lead and drive revenue generation initiatives including client targeting, market research, RFP responses, and client relationship reviews.
Collaborate with communications, brand, awards and recognition teams to develop and execute visibility initiatives and build brand awareness.
Provide direction, infrastructure, KPIs and metrics for strategic client initiatives and lead a geographically distributed marketing and business development team.
Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with firm-wide industry leaders, practice group leaders, managing directors and the broader department.
Collaborate across teams to elevate matter collection and streamline knowledge management for client-facing material.
Work with department leadership to drive cross-functional projects, increase efficiency, collaboration, and visibility for the department and the firm.
Drive cross-selling opportunities with the Business Development Team; assist in expanding existing client relationships and generating new business.
Create consistency in messaging and best practices through staff development and training.
Share best practices across industry and practice groups to maximize productivity of business development and marketing efforts.
Coach and develop team members, mentor staff, and identify developmental needs.
Provide guidance and direction to the team, set performance standards and monitor performance.
Identify and develop best practices across the department and establish long-range objectives and actions to achieve them.
Qualifications 4-year degree in marketing, communications or related field required; Master\'s degree preferred; industry certifications preferred.
15 years of progressive experience in marketing and business development; experience leading firm-wide initiatives in a multi-office setting, preferably in a professional services firm.
Strong business development abilities, including prioritization, planning, organization, delegation and negotiation; ability to manage budgets and analyze ROI.
Ability to motivate attorneys to engage in business development and to implement business development plans.
Experience providing high level client service to individuals at all levels of an organization.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to write and produce compelling proposals, collateral, research reports and client-facing presentation materials.
Forward-thinking with the ability to deliver solutions to complex challenges; high level of maturity and confidence to interact with sophisticated clients.
Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office; background in BD/marketing technology and processes to drive revenue and efficiency.
Outstanding interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to build consensus and support for initiatives; team-first approach with a track record of mentoring a large, geographically diverse team.
Dynamic energy, proactive attitude, results-oriented, and client-service mentality; ability to adapt to shifting demands and opportunities.
Leadership skills to guide and develop others and manage change initiatives related to talent and people management.
Knowledge of current legal market trends, news, and innovations.
