Director of Business Development & Marketing – Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Oakland Burke, Williams & Sorensen, LLP is looking for a Director of Business Development and Marketing to join its offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Oakland. The role involves leading the business development, branding, and marketing efforts across all of Burke’s legal practices, including but not limited to Litigation, Labor and Employment, and Public Law.
This position is a full-time, exempt role. Our current hybrid arrangement for staff entails working two days on-site and three days from home each week. This arrangement may be changed based on business needs. The role reports directly to the Firm’s Managing Partner.
Responsibilities Business Development and Client Growth: Coach and support attorneys at all levels in building client relationships, preparing pitches, proposals, and presentations. Manage and improve feedback programs, referral pipelines, and cross-selling efforts. Conduct market, industry, and competitive research to identify growth opportunities.
Practice Group Support: Work with Practice Chairs to assess and develop business development and marketing needs related to the overall strategic plan for each group.
Individual Partner Support: Meet with partners to develop and implement curated business plans. Monitor and support business development and marketing opportunities for partners, and identify targets and strategies to support these efforts.
Lateral Integration: At the direction of Firm management, in collaboration with the Director of Legal Recruiting and Professional Development, create and execute integration plans to ensure successful onboarding of lateral partners, including assisting them with integrating their clientele into the Firm.
Branding and Messaging: Develop and maintain sales materials, pitches, and proposals to highlight the Firm and its practice areas. Lead high-profile RFPs and efforts to raise the Firm’s profile. Lead the Firm’s overall brand strategy, including positioning, messaging, and external communications. Ensure consistency of brand and messaging across all platforms and collateral.
Event Management: Plan, manage, and develop strategies and content for events, sponsorship involvement, speaking engagements, and opportunities. Develop post-event strategies for follow-up lead tracking and ROI measurement.
Tracking and Reporting: Develop meaningful approaches to track business development and marketing efforts to demonstrate value. Create and lead internal business analysis and conduct market research.
Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree required (a focus in Marketing, Communications, Business or related field is a plus).
7-10 years of progressively responsible business development and marketing experience, preferably in a law firm or other professional services environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the proven ability to craft compelling content.
Demonstrated success in developing and executing strategic business development initiatives.
Knowledge of technology including data collection, reporting, and CRM tools. Proficiency in website content management systems and digital marketing tools is required.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to proactively anticipate issues and execute solutions.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with attorneys, clients, and business professionals.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
Compensation The pay range for this position is $230,000–$255,000 plus annual bonuses. Actual salary within the range depends on the candidate’s experience. Annual discretionary bonuses, competitive health insurance benefits, and 401(k) with a partial match are offered when eligible for benefits.
