The Opportunity:

The Director of Business Applications, Software, and Intelligence leads the strategic vision, development, and execution of the organization’s enterprise software, business intelligence, and analytics landscape. This role is responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of business applications, driving data-driven decision-making, and ensuring robust, actionable insights for stakeholders. The director manages cross-functional teams and partners with business leaders to deliver innovative solutions that align with organizational goals.

Travel Demands: Anticipated travel is limited but may be up to 20%.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Direct, manage, and supervise the development, deployment, and maintenance of enterprise software applications (e.g., ERP, CRM, BI, EAI) in alignment with business objectives.
    • Develop and execute strategies for business intelligence and analytics to support operational efficiency and informed decision-making.
    • Create and oversee analytical frameworks, roadmaps, and metrics for data and BI teams.
  • Application and Data Management
    • Oversee the entire lifecycle of enterprise software, including planning, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
    • Ensure integration of business applications with existing systems and infrastructure, collaborating with IT and business stakeholders.
    • Manage the collection, organization, and analysis of business data to identify trends, inform decisions, and support stakeholder needs.
  • Innovation and Technology
    • Evaluate, select, and implement software solutions, including mobility, artificial intelligence, analytics, and scalable platforms.
    • Lead the development of reports, dashboards, visualizations, and predictive models to display key performance indicators and root cause analysis.
    • Assess and adopt new technologies to improve business operations and data capabilities.
  • Governance and Compliance
    • Establish and enforce governance policies and standards for software development, data management, and BI usage.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, security standards, licensing requirements, and deliverable reporting.
    • Perform quality audits and data validation to maintain accuracy and integrity.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Partner with business leaders to understand requirements and deliver strategic solutions.
    • Lead meetings to present analysis, insights, and recommendations to stakeholders.
    • Manage relationships with software vendors and negotiate contracts.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Identify and define process and data improvements to enhance efficiency and profitability.
    • Recommend changes to business processes based on data-driven insights.
    • Proactively address business challenges and opportunities through analysis and collaboration.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leading and managing vendor management relationships for critical business applications including cieTrade, Navision, Power Automate, Procurify, Smartsheet, Jet Reports, and others.
  • Ensuring maintenance and support of PowerBI, AI, and any other reporting/analytics solutions.
  • Facilitating and leading business stakeholder information requirement meetings.
  • Managing internal and external resources and vendors supporting solutions.
  • Driving retirement of legacy solutions to cloud-based solutions to support scalable, flexible, secure growth with minimal additional FTE overhead.
  • Fostering innovation, developing talent, and driving organizational change.

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Computer Science or similar preferred.
  • 10+ years progressively increasing technology experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the waste management industry required.
  • Experience with cieTrade Recycling Software required,
  • Experience managing internal resources, contractors, and vendors.
  • Experience working with waste processing facilities.
  • Transitioning of legacy SQL- and Excel-based solutions to cloud-based, Power BI and AI solutions.
  • Extensive business knowledge with a comprehensive understanding of enterprise software, business intelligence, and data analytics.
  • Proven experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects.
  • Strong analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with best-in-class tools for software development, BI, and analytics.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Extensive experience with complex ETL.
  • Experience with 2015 era Navision ERP.
  • Experience with Power Automate and/or other automation solutions.
  • Experience leading development teams in Agile development.
  • Experience with Microsoft Development Operations solutions and Azure preferred.
  • Experience with data warehouse, maintenance, and ongoing optimization.
  • Business analysis experience leading financial and operational process mapping.
  • Strong overall technical architecture experience designing scalable, flexible, and secure cloud-based solutions.
  • Experience developing customer portals and/or migrating to a cloud-based ERP preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and comfortable working in a rapidly paced environment with many cross-functional stakeholders.
