TITLE : DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS AND FINANCE
QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required.
CPA or Masters Degree in Business (Accounting or Finance) desired.
Five years experience in the above areas of expertise including at least three years of
supervisory experience.
Knowledge of fund accounting, generally accepted governmental accounting and audit
standards, grant management and Michigan school accounting.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Products.
Approachable with ability to develop positive interpersonal relationships, and has ability to
work well with and resolve issues with diverse workforce.
Have high ethical standards.
Such alternatives to the above that the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO : Superintendent
SUPERVISES : Business Office Staff, Food Service Manager.
JOB GOAL : To administer the business affairs of the district in such a way as to provide the best possible educational services with the financial resources available.
ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Responsible for budgeting and long-range financial planning.
2. Responsible for accounting and reporting of the finances of the district.
3. Responsible for final arrangements in award of contracts or bids in accordance with school
policies.
4. Responsible for the internal and external auditing of district accounting records.
5. Responsible for financial reports as required by state and federal agencies having jurisdiction
over public school funds.
6. Responsible for development and administration of the purchasing system.
7. Responsible for maintaining an up-to-date inventory of district property.
8. Responsible for the district real estate and insurance programs.
9. Responsible for the collection, safekeeping and distribution of all funds.
10.Responsible for the development and maintenance of monthly and annual financial reports.
11.Responsible for the State of Michigan accounting procedures to record in detail all money and
credit transactions.
12.Responsible for maintaining adequate files of documents related to all business transactions,
contractual agreements such as deeds, abstracts, contracts and to administer payment for
construction, alternation, or repair contracts and equipment contracts.
13.Responsible for the management of Federal and State Grant Programs. This includes
completing the application for state and federal funds in cooperation with appropriate Central
Office Administrator.
14.Responsible for communications related to district finances to the Board of Education and
Community.
15.Consults with Superintendent and other personnel on questions related to the district finances.
16.Recommends policies related to district finances.
17.Provides consulting to each school building in the district regarding their building finances
18.Serves as a resource and/or member of a negotiation team at the request of the
Superintendent.
19.Advise Superintendent regarding business and financial questions.
20.Responsible for recruiting, screening, hiring, assigning, supervising and evaluating staff.
21.Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Superintendent may assign.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Twelve months a year. Contract terms and salary to be established
by the Board.
EVALUATION : Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent.
