The Director of Athletic Giving and Senior Development Officer is responsible for procuring annual, restricted, major, and deferred gifts to the College in accordance with the department’s goals. This role works directly with the Athletic Department to develop, implement and manage efforts to secure annual, capital and endowed gifts to support athletics. There is a specific emphasis on securing gifts and pledges primarily in the $1,000 – $1 million range. Job Responsibilities: Develop and manage annual and major gift campaigns strategically aligned with the College’s objectives for the Athletic Department including establishing and maintaining relationships with athletic department staff, and a portfolio of former players and athletic parents and alumni.
Develop and implement a strategy for a robust athletic giving program which includes athletic parent and alumni engagement in addition to annual giving to the Lynx Club and capital projects.
Serve on the One Day Challenge leadership team for the Athletic Day of Giving.
Cultivate and maintain favorable relationships with a portfolio of prospects and donors to make philanthropic investments in Rhodes. Solicit major and deferred gifts and leadership annual gifts in addition to gifts to support athletics. This requires intense focus on one-on-one visits with assigned prospects and donors, developing strategy, designing proposals and closing gifts. Provide excellent stewardship to donors in recognition of their investments.
Work with members of the division staff to broaden the base of gift prospects and to develop appropriate programs to meet the College’s highest funding priorities, which will include a comprehensive capital campaign.
*Extensive travel at times is required; as well as occasional night/weekend responsibilities. Job Requirements: Bachelor’s degree, required.
Three (3) years of increasing development experience, preferably at an educational institution or demonstrated knowledge in marketing, student recruitment and/or sales required.
Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities, to solve problems and demonstrate leadership skills is required.
Ability to relate well to the public is a must.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office required.
This position requires a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and must be insurable by the College’s insurance carrier.
Extensive travel at times is required; as well as occasional night/weekend responsibilities.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background screening, which includes a credit history check in accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and applicable state laws. This is required due to the financial responsibilities involved in this role.
