Position Summary
The Director of Accounting is a hands-on finance professional who leads the accounting team, drives continuous process improvement, and partners cross-functionally to support strategic decision-making. You'll own the full accounting cycle, manage the month-end close process, drive audit readiness, and play a critical role in scaling our financial operations. Our ideal candidate has a strong technical accounting foundation, thrives in lean environments, and brings a builder's mindset to systems and processes.
Responsibilities
Accounting Operations & Financial Close
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
Maintain the general ledger and ensure compliance with US GAAP.
Ensure completeness and accuracy of financial data across departments and systems.
Financial Audit & Compliance Own annual audit preparation, including PBC list management and support for controls testing.
Serve as primary liaison with external auditors and tax advisors.
Evaluate and enhance internal controls and accounting policies.
Systems & Process Optimization Optimize the team's use of NetSuite and identify opportunities for automation and implement scalable accounting workflows.
Lead accounting systems enhancements and integrations, supporting company growth.
Leadership & Strategic Support Manage and mentor a small but high-impact accounting team.
Collaborate cross-functionally with FP&A, Sales, and Operations teams to align
with business objectives.
Support the CFO in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives.
Contribute to ad hoc projects, including process reengineering, due diligence, and systems implementations.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2+ years in a managerial or leadership role.
Strong month-end close and reconciliation experience with expert-level understanding of debits and credits and a strong technical accounting foundation.
Solid understanding of budgeting, forecasting, financial planning processes, and experience leading financial audits and compliance.
Proficiency in NetSuite and experience with financial management systems and tools, as well as proficiency in spreadsheet and data analysis software.
Experience in smaller or early-stage VC/PE backed companies, building accounting infrastructure from the ground up.
Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards.
Proven leadership abilities, with experience in managing and developing a team.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide insights to drive decision-making.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Ability to work independently, self-motivated, and comfortable in a remote work environment.
Big 4 public accounting background or equivalent high-caliber experience.
Prior involvement in M&A activity or due diligence processes is a plus.

Compensation Range: The base salary range for this position is $130,000 to $160,000 per year plus an annual bonus plan. The actual base pay offered is determined by several variables, such as the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, education, location, and market conditions. Base pay is one component of EPS Learning's total compensation package, which also includes a generous benefits package, 401k plan, as well as bonus or commission.
