This is ahybrid position based out of Feeding America’s Washington DC office location. At Feeding America, we believe in offering a flexible work environment. Employees must be in the office an average of 2 days a week (when not travelling for work) and can work from home on other days. Employees also have access to a 30-day “work anywhere” program during the course of each calendar year that can be combined with PTO and/or holidays.

As such, we maintain transparent salary ranges and clearly defined practices for how our team, including new hire salary offers, moves through these ranges. You can expect us to offer the best salary up front based on these clearly defined pay practices with little room for negotiation. We make exceptions for highly experienced (multiple years of at-level experience) new hires in accordance with our pay practices. Once hired, employees have the opportunity to progress through salary ranges via regular merit increases and step promotions.
Salary Range: $131,000 - $136,000 Based on Experience.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategies and plans to engage Feeding America’s network of partner food banks to advance Feeding America’s policy and legislative priorities including overseeing network advocacy grants, network advocacy capacity, network resource development, tracking network advocacy and network rapid response mobilization.
- Oversee the day-to-day activities related to mobilizing targeted leaders from partner food banks and development of specific resources, technical assistance, and advocacy strategies to strengthen Feeding America’s impact on legislative priorities.
- Provide advocacy service and support, including strategic advice, “trouble shooting,” and technical expertise to the national office, partner food banks and state food bank associations on advocacy and mobilization.
- Oversee work with committees engaged in network advocacy. This includes day-to-day management activities related to managing network committees focused on building network advocacy capacity, engaging in policy, legislative and advocacy strategies.
- Work in close collaboration with Communications colleagues on message execution and collaborate with the Government Relations and Digital Marketing teams on the deployment of messaging in network advocacy resources.
- Represent Feeding America at advocacy and movement building events, forums, speaking engagements, conferences, coalition meetings and similar events.
- Manage external consultants and budget to support advocacy efforts.
- Respond to requests for information on advocacy initiatives.
- 8+ years’ experience in grassroots advocacy, including expertise in distributed campaigning. Must include experience in Capitol Hill, Administration or issue advocacy.
- Must have a strong understanding of the federal, state legislative and regulatory process and congressional committee structure.
- Need ability to facilitate strategic and creative thought process and discussions as part of a team.
- Experience working in the Feeding America network or similar distributed network experience combined with experience with hunger/poverty issues and policy strongly preferred.
- Proficient in MS Office applications.
