Role Summary
The ASPCA is seeking a strategic and creative leader to oversee the production of powerful photo and video content that brings our mission and impact to life and deepens engagement with priority audiences including the public, professionals, policymakers, staff, and future employees.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Creative Strategy & Branding, the Director, Multimedia Production will lead a team of multimedia professionals in developing high-quality, emotionally resonant visual stories. This role is responsible for shaping content that supports our communications, marketing, fundraising, advocacy and program goals-spanning platforms such as aspca.org, aspcapro.org, social media, email, integrated campaigns and media.
This leader will collaborate closely with internal and external teams to ensure all visual storytelling reflects the ASPCA's brand, meets audience needs, and aligns with organizational priorities. They will direct the development of creative, working closely with their team to provide hands-on support with all aspects of the production process. They will also oversee content workflows and asset management, ensuring roles and responsibilities are clear and that photo and video materials are organized, accessible, and compliant with legal and brand guidelines.
The ideal candidate is a skilled storyteller with a strong background in visual production and a deep understanding of how to craft content that inspires action. They will partner closely with the Senior Director, Creative Strategy & Branding to set our creative vision and support strategic execution, and they thrive in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary ranges for this role are set forth below and may be modified in the future.
The target hiring range for this role $117,000-$125,000.

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Lead Content Production & Strategic Storytelling (55%) Oversee the development of compelling photo and video content that brings the ASPCA's mission to life and drives engagement across channels. Partner with program, marketing, and creative teams to identify strong story opportunities and ensure visual content supports organizational priorities and campaigns + moments on the integrated calendar. Develop subject matter familiarity to ensure content reflects the depth and impact of ASPCA programs. Guide the creative direction, production, and review of multimedia assets to ensure they are emotionally resonant, brand-aligned (visual, tone, messaging), and legally compliant. Leverage strong communication + collaboration skills to understand project goals, ask thoughtful questions, and align asset planning with organizational priorities. Provide mentorship and guidance to team members on production best practices, including planning, filming, lighting, audio, and post-production techniques to support continuous skill development and content quality. Manage the team's travel schedule to ensure coverage of key events, fieldwork, and content needs across the organization. Oversee logistics for location and studio shoots, including talent, budget, equipment, and production materials such as shot lists and storyboards. Apply audience insights and channel best practices to craft content that is effective, impactful, and optimized for reach and engagement. Stay current on emerging multimedia tools and distribution platforms, recommending strategic investments and analyzing content performance to optimize creativity, efficiency, and audience impact. Support the adoption of storytelling and brand guidelines across the organization, including training staff and collaborating with external partners + vendors. Team Leadership & Management (25%) Supervise and develop a team of photo and video professionals, fostering a collaborative, creative, and mission-driven culture that focuses on innovative approaches to storytelling. Provide regular coaching, feedback, and performance guidance through regular 1:1 meetings, quarterly feedback sessions, annual performance reviews and goal setting to support professional growth and team alignment with organizational priorities. Seek opportunities for direct reports to build relationships with other ASPCA staff in creative, editorial, and content roles Source, onboard, and manage contractors (photographers, videographers, voiceover artists, etc.) to expand production capacity and ensure consistent quality across all content. Maintain and socialize list of trusted contractors to support organizational projects as needed. Inspire a culture of creativity and innovation across the creative + multimedia team Content Infrastructure & Asset Management (10%) Oversee production workflows and the management of photo/video assets, including digital asset systems (Widen), licensing, and usage rights. Support the creation of content packs, editorial calendars, and campaign toolkits to prioritize and scale storytelling across departments. Maintain and regularly update the Multimedia Fieldwork Calendar and monthly activity recaps to provide visibility into team priorities, coverage, and impact across the organization. Manage external vendors and freelancers to supplement internal capabilities as needed. Additional Responsibilities (10%) Participate in departmental planning and cross-functional initiatives. Contribute to team brainstorming and creative ideation across marketing efforts. Perform other duties as assigned in support of the organization's mission and storytelling goals. Proficient in operating a range of photo and video equipment-including cameras, lighting setups, microphones, and related gear-to support high-quality, on-location and in-studio production Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and digital asset management tools Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time for field productions to provide hands-on direction and support Skilled at leading projects from concept through delivery-balancing creativity, strategy, and execution Strong organizational and time management skills; able to juggle multiple projects and deadlines Comfortable providing creative direction, feedback, and guiding content reviews Excellent written and verbal communication skills Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to brand consistency and content quality Passion for animal welfare and alignment with the ASPCA's mission Work Experience 8+ years of experience producing multimedia content, with a strong focus on video and photo storytelling Minimum 3 years of proven experience managing and mentoring creative teams, including producers, editors, and content creators Experience working in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization is a plus but not required. . click apply for full job details
