Overview Stanford Graduate School of Business Library seeks a Director, Library Finance and Technical Operations (Library Manager 1). The role is part of the GSB Research Hub and directs the Library’s budget and the Technical Services areas, including Cataloging, Serials and Materials Processing, and Data and Database Procurement. The Director collaborates with Library Leadership, IT specialists, and subject matter experts to plan and monitor collections spending and provide metadata and technical services leadership. Primary Responsibilities Financial Management Engage with library and Research Hub leadership to plan and monitor collections spending, including regular budget updates to fiscal-year targets Manage and oversee the library budget; report bi-weekly updates to the Director, Business Library Perform acquisitions and vendor management with cross-departmental collaboration Ensure timely follow-through on purchases, renewals, withdrawals, and cancellations; monitor bill payments; verify spend categories; anticipate annual expenditures Contribute to discussions on selections, consortial arrangements, license reviews, and vendor negotiations Collaborate with Research Hub and library leadership in preparing annual budget requests for submission to GSB
Technical Operations Maintain and update metadata in the electronic resource management system Oversee physical materials management, including inventory activities Oversee compliance and business processes for purchasing in Stanford procurement systems (library supplies, materials orders, travel, reimbursements) Develop and align unit goals with library priorities; articulate a long-term vision for Technical Operations Collaborate with Collections teams to create, maintain, and enhance metadata across discovery platforms and library systems Participate in the ongoing development of the university catalog system, FOLIO Monitor technology trends and evaluate emerging technologies for adoption to enhance library programs, services, and collections
Organizational Leadership/Operations Coach, mentor, and guide Technical Operations staff to ensure effective workflows Participate in library planning initiatives and develop policies and procedures aligned with the mission and goals Serve on library, university, and consortia committees
Qualifications Master’s Degree in Library Science and five years of relevant experience in an academic library, including at least three years of management experience (or a combination of education and relevant experience) Ability to develop efficient processes and think creatively beyond traditional approaches Experience with developing and maintaining library budgets Experience with Electronic Resource Management systems (ERMs) Proficiency with spreadsheet and/or database software Knowledge of metadata standards (e.g., MARC, Dublin Core) and data management practices; expertise in cataloging to defined standards Ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders with diplomacy; strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills Knowledge of Library Services Platforms (LSPs), Content Management Systems (CMS), and platform integrations; experience with technologies to enhance library services Desirable Advanced degree in Library and Information Science or a related field; additional master’s or PhD preferred Understanding of the research process through academic or professional experience Evidence of initiative in fostering ideas and implementing change Engagement with relevant professional or academic communities Compensation and Benefits The expected pay range is $167,298 to $201,259 per year.
