General Summary:The person in the Director, Corporate Strategy position is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and supporting the prioritization of innovation and/or adjacent opportunities in line with the business' long-term growth strategy. To manage and execute assigned projects in line with Unum Group priorities, working closely with the leadership team and Senior Management to support the overall strategy for Unum Group in our existing markets. Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Support development of Unum Group’s strategy and strategic priorities by identifying, analyzing, and addressing complex business issues and developing actionable strategies
Ensure alignment of growth and innovation with Unum Group overall strategy
Manage strategic initiatives, partnering with other departments and/or functional heads as appropriate, helping identify roadblocks and ensure process discipline
Assess likely revenue and profit impacts of ideas and evaluate against the costs – make recommendations and build business cases, help monitor trajectory towards value realization
Develop and maintain internal network of contacts to validate concepts, support information gathering, and facilitate socialization of ideas, while establishing a strong understanding of business operations and priorities for the organization
Prepare presentations to senior leadership and Board of Director as needed
Strategy Vertical Help define the range of business opportunity for Unum in the wider U.S. markets in which Unum could credibly operate
Identify, analyze, and prioritize new market/partnership development opportunities through extensive competitive research, local market sales and service activities, strong understanding of businesses adjacent to Unum and important macro trends (regulatory, technological, economic, social, and demographic)
Innovation vertical Facilitate working sessions with the business to identify and prioritize innovation discovery pipeline
Lead development of materials related to innovation process (e.g., pilot, and minimum viable solution business cases, monitoring of portfolio, roadblock removal, etc.) to enable clear and timely decision-making
Partner with delivery teams as necessary to stay aligned to ongoing portfolio
Act as delegate in appropriate forums as necessary
Job Specifications
Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA preferred
Finance experience preferred
7+ years’ experience in business strategy, corporate finance, business management or consulting
Comfortable working at all levels in the organization from the C-suite to business unit professionals; team builder.
Assimilate and adapt to Unum’s culture while managing change using strong influencing skills, while operating in a new/unfamiliar environment, and working effectively within a highly matrixed organization.
Knowledge of the basic economics of financial services & business services companies
Strong team player with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, while thriving in a fast-paced work environment
Intellectually curious with demonstrated ability to learn about new business concepts and technology
Focused on quick results and fast turnaround
Very strong problem structuring and analytical skills
Very strong modeling and presentation writing skills
Very strong verbal and written communication skills
Superior project management skills; strong collaborator

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$89,900.00-$169,900.00 Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
