We are currently seeking a Director for Laboratory Services who is responsible for the operation of the hospital's laboratory. Plans, directs and implements department goals and objective in conjunction with the Medical director and Administrator. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - With input from the Medical directors and Administrator and in accordance with organizational goals and plans, formulates and implements strategic long range plans for improvement, expansion and diversification of laboratory services. Initiates and implements lab-wide policies with thought given to incorporating current relevant technical changes in the field. Assigns projects to the Lab Supervisor in order to meet goals for completion on projects relating to the department's strategic plan. - Assures compliance with requirements of regulatory bodies, accrediting agencies, hospital policies, and laboratory policies and procedures. Prepares for the accreditation process, demonstrating support for policies and ensuring staff orientation to and adherence with requirements. Takes appropriate and timely corrective actions for infractions of staff supervised. - Assures staff is qualified and competent through development and implementation of lab competency and education guidelines. Interviews and hires qualified candidates. Monitors competency and addresses training needs, providing timely and effective evaluations. Provides continuing education in accordance with established departmental standards. - In conjunction with the Medical Director, formulates and assures implementation of laboratory continuous quality improvement program. - Provides appropriate leadership and supervision to staff and promotes an environment in which staff can work effectively and cooperatively. Communicates appropriate departmental as well as hospital and hospital information to staff through monthly department staff meetings, sharing administration memos when appropriate, inter-office memos/communications, etc. - Acts as liaison between the unit(s) and other hospital employees, patients, families, visitors and physicians as appropriate, ensuring that assistance provided is appropriate, helpful and reflects the mission and culture of the hospital. - Actively participates on various relevant committees as requested , or as appropriate to meet the needs, mission and organizational plans of the hospital. - Prepares and manages fiscal budget and other department records, reports and statics, ensuring all paperwork is accurate, thorough and timely in accordance with established practice guidelines. - Maintains the skills required to work in areas supervised if needed. - All other duties as assigned. Qualifications: EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Associates degree with major in medical technology or related biological science required. Bachelors' degree with major in medical technology or related biological science preferred. LICENSING: MLT (ASCP) REQUIRED MT (ASCP) registration or equivalent preferred. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 years of technical experience including a minimum of two years of supervisory experience required. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Demonstrated leadership and management abilities. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to handle stress associated with simultaneous demands. Thorough knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control procedures and practices including standard precautions and hazardous chemical handling. Considerable knowledge of laboratory equipment, instrumentation and terminology. Considerable knowledge of the clinical laboratory procedures and regulatory agencies' standards.
