The American Nurses Enterprise (ANE) is seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of IT Applications to lead a team of 12 technical professionals in a .NET and Azure-hosted environment. You will play a pivotal role in driving transformational technology development, as ANE prepares for the future of nursing. As the ideal candidate, you will possess technical expertise in application development, cloud platforms, and DevSecOps practices, while championing secure-by-design principles and fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. Also, you will partner with business leaders to deliver solutions that align with ANE’s goals and regulatory standards.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a key member of ANE’s senior IT leadership team, you will ensure our business technology solutions enhance operational efficiency, support innovation, and provide a competitive edge. This role will collaborate across IT and business units to lead transformation initiatives, optimize application value, and uphold security and compliance standards.
Leadership & Mentoring
Lead, coach, and develop a team of 12 developers to build technical capability, accountability, and leadership skills.
Drive the transformation of the applications team by adopting Agile, DevSecOps, secure coding standards, mobile-ready, and cloud-native architectures.
Inspire a collaborative, high-performing culture that values innovation, security, and quality.
Technology & Delivery Oversight
Own the design, development, and maintenance of applications in a .NET, SaaS, and Azure environment.
Collaborate with architecture teams to conduct buy-build-customize analyses and operationalize outcomes.
Business Engagement
Build strong relationships with business partners to identify and deliver solutions that drive revenue growth and operational efficiency.
Portfolio & Operational Management
Shape, execute, and champion the IT applications roadmap in alignment with ANE’s strategic goals.
Manage solutions supporting association management (e.g., Personify), content management (e.g., Optimizely), marketing automation (e.g., HubSpot), and other SaaS applications.
Collaborate closely with infrastructure, data, architecture, program management, and security teams to deliver future-ready solutions.
Vendor & Risk Management
Manage relationships with key software vendors, consultants, and service providers.
Negotiate contracts, monitor performance, and ensure vendors meet security, compliance, and service-level expectations.
Embed security controls and compliance requirements (GDPR, PCI, NIST, ISO) throughout the software development lifecycle.
Budget Oversight
Manage the enterprise applications budget with a focus on cost-effectiveness and resource optimization.
WHAT YOU BRING TO ANE
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
10+ years in IT, with 5+ years in enterprise application leadership.
Experience managing technical teams of 12+ professionals and budgets exceeding $1 million.
Proven track record of delivering secure, modern, and compliant applications (GDPR, PCI, NIST, ISO).
Experience with association management platforms (e.g., Personify), CMS (Optimizely), and marketing tools (HubSpot) strongly preferred.
Background in nonprofit, membership-based, or government technology organizations is a plus.
Demonstrated success in transforming teams, fostering growth, and developing future leaders.
Proven ability to manage vendors and third-party partners effectively.
Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization.

Hybrid Work: 20% in-office presence required in Silver Spring, MD, per pay period.
Travel: Minimal travel required.
