Location: Administrative Services Administrative Compensation Plan Salary Range: $ 102,733- $ 128,415 per/Year Shift Type: Full-Time Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Reports To: Assistant Superintendent - Administrative Services EMPLOYMENT BEGINS: As soon as possible PRIMARY PURPOSE: To provide leadership for the district's health program in a way that creates a climate of health and well-being in the schools so that students may maximize their academic efforts. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: State license to practice as a registered nurse Bachelor's Degree / Master's Degree SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Possess background and experience in health matters. Possess strong leadership skills. Exhibit excellent communication (verbal and written), public relation, and interpersonal skills. Possess current knowledge relative to new technology used in the provision of health care in the district. Possess current knowledge regarding the rules and regulations governing the practice of nursing in the state of Texas. Demonstrate ability to manage an effective Health Services Department that includes supervising registered nurses, application of evidence-based practice in the delivery of health care, identification and utilization of community resources, provide staff development opportunities for school nurses and, management of operational and capital expenditures budgets. Possess understanding of all Department of Health, County, and State regulations as they apply to public schools. EXPERIENCE: Five years experience as a school nurse in a public school setting. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as administration may find appropriate and acceptable MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Planning and directing of all Health Services activities for the district. Plan and conduct staff development for school nurses. Plan and conduct orientation and mentoring program for new school nurses. Coordinate the district's Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan. Coordinate CPR program for staff development and community education including scheduling of classes and instructors. Coordinate the AED program for the district including identification of campuses first response teams, AED training for identified personnel, maintenance and upkeep of AED units, and assurance of compliance with state law governing the use of AED units. Serve as health consultant to all district departments, principals and employees. Perform public relation functions on behalf of the district regarding the Health Services program with other school districts, parents, and community, county and state officials. Prepare and submit annual state reports regarding screening results and immunization status. Review and revise policy, procedure and guidelines related to Health Services. Plan operational and capital expenditures budget for Health Services. Work with city, county and state public health agencies to assure compliance with all regulations and laws. Evaluates program and recommends changes for improvement. Encourage the development of leadership training through professional organization. Conduct research, pilot programs and other investigations to improve the quality of care delivered in the district. Perform appraisals using the Professional and Developmental Appraisal System for Nurses on all school nurses. Develop and evaluate intervention plans for nurses with areas needing improvement. Interview and make recommendations for hire of all Health Services personnel. Determine yearly campus assignments for school nurses. Monitor upkeep and repair of equipment used in Health Services. Develop, review, and revise all forms used in Health Services. Monitor the immunization status to assure compliance with state regulations. Assure that nursing practice meets the standards of nursing established by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. Keep current of all legislative processes that effect school nursing practice. Direct all health-related screening programs carried out in the schools. Take appropriate action with respect to county and state health department recommendations. Serve as a member of the Central Office Crisis Management Team. Coordinate maintenance of Health Services records, such as child abuse and incident reports. Perform other responsibilities as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Wellness Facilitator WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands: Entering computer data and completing extensive paperwork. Handling multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining emotional control. Physical demands/environmental factors: In-district travel.
