Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental , reporting to the Vice President of HSSE. This role is part of our strategic succession plan, preparing the candidate to assume the leadership role upon the current VP’s retirement. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with the current VP to understand YTI’s HSSE policies and procedures and lead continuous improvement initiatives aligned with company values, regulations, and business goals. The Director will foster a culture of safety, sustainability, and compliance across all operations, demonstrating strategic leadership and safety excellence. What you will do: Lead by example to ensure all employees adhere to safety procedures and work safely to prevent injuries. Support the VP of HSSE in implementing safety initiatives and promoting a safety-first culture. Provide leadership and guidance to the Safety team and facility safety managers, fostering accountability and continuous improvement. Partner with the GM of Safety to manage injury prevention, incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions. Collaborate with operations leadership to incorporate safe work practices into daily activities. Oversee compliance with OSHA, PCMSC, and other safety regulations, ensuring proper documentation and training. Lead safety audits, inspections, and drills, ensuring follow-up and corrective actions. Work with cross-functional teams to integrate safety considerations into business processes. Participate in safety committees and initiatives to promote safety culture. Drive YTI’s safety programs to reduce injuries and incidents. Develop and update health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures. Monitor workplace incidents and near misses, analyzing root causes and implementing corrective measures. Support environmental compliance programs and YTI’s zero-emissions strategy. Lead safety training programs, maintaining the training calendar and tracking certifications. Demonstrate YTI’s core values of Caring, Collaboration, and Commitment in all actions. What you will bring: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (Master’s preferred). 10+ years management experience in logistics or maritime industries; manufacturing/distribution background is a plus. At least 5 years in senior HSSE leadership, preferably in maritime, logistics, or industrial sectors. Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, USCG, and relevant regulations in a regulated environment. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience with behavioral safety programs, environmental compliance, and emergency response. Certifications such as CSP, CHMM are advantageous. Strategic thinking and ability to lead initiatives. Proven success in managing large, complex organizations and fostering safety culture. Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work under pressure. Influencing skills to promote safety practices across teams.
