The Director of the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (FCTLE) is responsible for leading, creating, implementing, supervising, and overseeing faculty professional development opportunities at College of Southern Nevada. The Director supervises the day-to-day operations of the FCTLE and makes it a visible, vibrant, and safe collaborative space aimed at supporting the role of all faculty, including both full-and part-time faculty, tenure, non-tenure track, temporary, and division of workforce and economic development instructors. The Director works with the FCTLE Advisory Board to provide strategic and operational leadership in the design, implementation, and evaluation of faculty training programs, workshops, services, institutes, fellowships, and academies.
The Director has administrative responsibility for the management, planning, and development of all department policies, services, budgets, projects, and supervision of personnel; will be responsible for building a cohesive and comprehensive faculty professional development series of opportunities that include but are not limited to topics in innovation in teaching, learning outcomes assessment at the classroom and program level, the effective use of instructional technology, excellence in curriculum design, support for emerging academic technologies, artificial intelligence, and career-readiness pedagogy; and provides guidance to faculty on pedagogies appropriate to a wide variety of modalities, promotes new initiatives grounded on high impact practices and are evidence-based, and aligns with the strategic goals and mission of the College.
As the primary advocate for the Faculty Center and has the responsibility of fostering a mission-centered culture of strong collaborative relationships with chief academic officer, associate vice presidents, academic deans, department chairs, faculty, and academic support services. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Academic Success, the Director serves as a member of the academic leadership team.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with an emphasis in educational psychology, learning theory, instructional technology, curriculum design, or related field from a regionally accredited college/university
4 years of teaching experience at the college or university level.
2 years of supervision/mgt experience within higher education.
Experience with online instruction.
Experience with shared governance principles.
Experience with researching and implementing educational technology solutions
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree from a regionally accredited college/university
Experience developing or launching a teaching and learning center or designing and launching professional development programming.
Record of increasing administrative responsibilities and accomplishments in higher education, especially in academic affairs, information technology, and/or student affairs.
Record of attracting external grant funding in support of faculty professional development.
Commitment to evidence-based decisions to departmental operations.
Experience in budget management, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
Ability to develop long-term collaborative and strategic relationships with all units of academic communities and college partners.
The ideal candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of models of faculty development and the range of programs in the field of professional development, including a commitment to embracing innovative and inclusive policies, services, and technologies.
Fosters collaboration among various units which support effective teaching and learning on campus through a variety of instructional modalities.
Employ a variety of approaches (examples: online, face-to-face, hybrid) to deliver professional development training across disciplines and schools, such as fellowships, workshops, seminars, brown bags, communities of practice, one-on-one consultations, learning communities, institute participation, academies, book clubs, and peer mentoring.
Oversee instructional coaching for teaching observations and faculty feedback.
Provides direction on faculty and staff professional development including training for compliance purposes, and the use of technology-enhanced teaching.
Ability to provide inclusive and collaborative management and leadership throughout all job duties.
Proficiency in the use of a personal computer and current software applications including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Microsoft Teams.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Promote and share work conducted by the FCTLE within the CSN academic community and beyond through reports, publications, and presentations at state, regional, and/or national conferences.
Ability to make decisions and take actions independently in a variety of diverse situations. Show a high degree of creativity and initiative.
Demonstrate commitment to student success programs and strategic priority initiatives that promote access, belonging, and academic, vocational, and educational success for various CSN populations, including low socioeconomic, first-generation, and historically marginalized students.
Assist faculty members to successfully integrate active learning practices and technology into instruction focusing on the science of teaching and learning.
Professional and pedagogical commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Develop and coordinate professional development for Department Chairs.
Create programming to mentor and guide new/early career Tenure-Track faculty through the Tenure process.
Ability to develop long-term collaborative and strategic relationships with all units of academic communities and college partners.
Salary Information
Administrative Faculty D – Starting salary is $103,901
