The Director of Engineering – Legal & Privacy Systems is a strategic technical leader responsible for the development, customization, and operational excellence of Versant’s legal and privacy platforms. This role is ideal for a leader who thrives at the intersection of system engineering, compliance technology, and operational stability while maintaining a forward-thinking, startup mindset.
You will lead engineering teams to deliver scalable, secure, cost-effective, and resilient systems that enable legal and privacy operations while supporting modernization initiatives across the enterprise. The ideal candidate combines hands-on technical expertise with strong cross-functional leadership, operating with broad autonomy and a commitment to delivering value while ensuring system stability and compliance.
Responsibilities
Strategic & Technical Leadership
Own the vision and roadmap for legal and privacy system engineering, aligning with business and regulatory priorities
Guide architecture, modernization, and performance improvements across OneTrust, iManage, and related platforms
Partner with Privacy, Legal, and Compliance teams to align system capabilities with operational and regulatory requirements
Continuously evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and vendor solutions to enhance capabilities, reduce technical debt, and drive cost effectiveness
Drive innovation in system integration, reporting, and automation to support legal and privacy workflows
Team & Execution Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing technical teams responsible for system development, customization, and support
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement focused on quality and operational stability
Oversee vendor relationships, licensing, and contract negotiations for legal and privacy systems
Operational Oversight
Ensure robust system monitoring, incident response, and performance management across platforms
Support compliance and privacy initiatives through reliable, scalable system configurations
Manage integrations with enterprise platforms while maintaining system security and regulatory compliance
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
10+ years in engineering roles, with 5+ years leading technical teams
Experience with OneTrust (IRR, CMP), iManage DMS, and privacy compliance systems
Strong vendor management and contract negotiation skills
Demonstrated ability to build and sustain high-performing, collaborative technical teams
Ability to maintain operational stability while supporting modernization initiatives

Operates with autonomy and takes ownership of ambiguous challenges without waiting for top-down direction
Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills

Fully Remote: This position has been designated as fully remote, meaning that the position is expected to contribute from a non-NBCUniversal worksite, most commonly an employee’s residence
This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
